She shared that her daughter Nicole also appreciates singing and music, but she doesn’t know if she wants Nicole to make singing into a career because she’s not sure if Nicole is as passionate about it.

Lea believes that singing from the heart is as important as the technical aspect of singing. However, if she has to choose one, Lea thinks heartfelt singing is more important than hitting the right notes.

The Tony Awardee shared that she’s also had bad performances when she’s sick. But whenever she sings, she makes sure that her heart is in the song, otherwise, “it would be empty.”

Talking about the artists on her team, Lea said that aside from mentoring them they’ve also become “family” to her and she helps them in everything, not just singing. According to Lea, the ones eliminated from the competition still support the ones left to represent their team.

Lea thinks all four contenders to be The Voice of the Philippines Season 2 are “deserving.” “They’re all wonderful and all so different.” Lea stressed that she would be happy with whoever wins because “it’s a celebration of singing and music.”

Asked if there are artists that she would have wanted to see in the finals, Lea answered, “Kokoi, Casper, Timmy, and Elmer Jun.”

Lea also explained why she asked viewers to “vote for the voice and not the story.” The candid coach says “it’s cheap if anyone of them has to make paawa to the audience.” Lea advised that an artist “may use her story to drive her vocals, but not to campaign for votes.”

Is there anything that Lea can’t do? Lea admitted, “I can’t rap and sing anything too high.”
