American singer and songwriter David Pomeranz admitted that he is not keen on the idea of becoming a judge for a reality singing competition. With various singing contests springing up on television today, the singer revealed that he is not a supporter of platforms in which artists are being judged and criticized.
“Honestly, first off no [I don’t want to be a judge]. I’m not a fan of evaluating artists. I don’t think it’s a good practice. Generally, I’m not a fan of criticizing artists. I'm more of a fan of pointing to the things that are right about what they did,” he said in an interview with Push.com.ph.
The singer stressed that he is the kind of person who likes to bring out the best in artists he gets to meet and work with by focusing on their strengths rather than on their weaknesses. “I like to help artists and I like to encourage them so if they have something wrong, with what they do. Then I would try to bring out the rightness of what they’re doing and say ‘Improve that, keep doing that,’ and eventually the wrongness will fall away but you don't put the attention on the bad stuff.”
David pointed out Jennifer Lopez as a good example of someone who veers away from downplaying the talent of the artist but who magnifies their good points as a musician. “People who generate art, almost everyone in some way or another, there is a little fragile point, a little flower in all of us that you’re going to be very careful with and I see some judges like I look at American Idol and I see Jennifer Lopez who’s a lovely person, she’s a very lovely person and she's in a tough position because she’s going to say what she thinks and feels but she’s always got a little something positive to say to the artist and if I were to do that I would be that kind of a coach,” he stated.
The singer is currently in the Philippines once again to promote his new album under PolyEast Records titled David Pomeranz: Greatest Hits. His new record is a collection of his timeless songs from his previous albums but also contains a new tune called “Crazy Beautiful”. “It’s a collection from the different PolyEast records that I’ve done and so the better songs and the more popular songs are in one place now and ‘Crazy Beautiful’ is a new song and we re-recorded two of the new songs from the other [album] that are more acoustic now.”
David shared that it is always such a joy to be in the Philippines and perform for his Filipino fans who are always welcoming and enthusiastic about his music. “I come back because the country is so welcoming and they asked me back. I’m always asks to do concerts and to do more records so I come back and enjoy being here.”
