A new afternoon melodrama series will be gracing our afternoons starting tomorrow. Titled "And I Love You So," it will star Angel Aquino, Dimples Romana, Julia Barretto, and up and coming actress Miles Ocampo.
"Sobrang masaya po ako kasi ito 'yung, for me, biggest break na naibigay sa akin. Sobrang masaya po ako sa opportunity na binigay nila. And ayun po, excited ako kasi parang itong show na 'to, iba naman po siya do'n sa mga dati kong ginagawa na puro pa-cute ako, puro pakilig. This time naman medyo seryoso na. 'Yung character ko, palaban na. Tsaka maraming mga eksena na hindi ko pa nagagawa before," narrated Miles in an interview with ABS-CBN.com. It will be her first lead portrayal on TV.

The young actress started in showbiz at the age of 6. Like most kids who are curious and imaginative, she pondered on the idea of fitting people inside a box, which we call the television. "Nacu-curious ako bakit yung mga tao nasa loob ng box. Sabi ko, parang gusto ko rin pumasok sa box na 'yun. Kala ko kasi 'yung TV, box siya. Tapos paano nakakapasok 'yung mga tao do'n?" recalled Miles. She asked her mom to accompany her to audtions until she landed a role in a hotdog commercial. She wasn't the first choice then, it just so happened that the original artist cast for the endorsement wasn't able to act as needed. "Nung ako na, tinanong nila ako 'Kumakain ka ba ng hotdog?' E nahihiya ako, di ko kasi alam na hotdog commercial 'yun. Sabi ko, 'Naku hindi po, ayoko po, thank you.' Sabi nila, 'Naku, pa'no 'yan e hotdog commercial 'to.' 'A ganon po ba? Sige kakain po ako.'"
She then became a part of Magandang Tanghali Bayan (MTB), a noontime variety show which stayed on air from 1998 to 2005. Miles joined the dance performances on Mondays and Saturdays.
Her first regular show was "Mangarap Ka" (2004), an afternoon television drama directed by Cathy Garcia-Molina and Malu Sevilla. It starred Piolo Pascual as Oslec and Angelica Panganiban as Cutie. Then 7-year-old Miles played the role of one of the streetchildren on the streets of Quiapo.
Her audition story for the said show was a funny one. As all callbacks go, she went to the set garbed in nice clothes, blow-dryed hair, and even wearing a nice set of false teeth--only to find out that the directors were looking for actors fit to portray the kids of downtown Manila. Direk Cathy asked if she can cut her waist-length hair to make her look like a boy as part of the narrative. "So ako, okay lang sa akin kasi feel na feel ko naman. Gusto ko naman mag-artista." Miles was to play the role of young boy Pepe. Like the viewing public, a number of people on the set actually thought that she is a boy. "Yung ibang audio man, pag kakabitan ako ng lapel, nagtataka sila bakit daw 'yung underwear ko pambabae, e lalaki daw ako," Miles quipped. "Lahat ng babae sa Quiapo, crush nila ako. Kasi akala nila lalaki ako." When it was later revealed in the story that she is actually the young girl Pepay, a lot of people were surprised.
Her next project was "Goin Bulilit," a sketch comedy show by kids and for kids. "For me, 'yun 'yung for me na naging unang pamilya ko sa industry. Kasi parang di kami nagtatrabaho do'n, naglalaro lang kami." Miles recalled how she and her batchmates would play noisily in between takes, much to the dismay of the guards on the nearby studio. She stayed in the show until she graduated with the sixth batch at the age of 12. "Pinakaunang show na talagang mahal na mahal ko kasi lahat kami pamilya. Pati mga staff, mga crew, sila direk. Pamilya talaga kami."
While still doing the weekend comedy show, Miles was casted along with four Goin Bulilit co-actors for "Mga Anghel na Walang Langit" (2005-2006). Inspired by the 1970s film of the same title, it tackles the story of the lives of unfortunate and exploited children. Because of high ratings, the show stayed on air for nine months.

After graduating from Goin Bulilit, she became part of the teen show "Luv U." She commented that it was a next step for her both as a girl coming of age and as a tv personality.

"Home Sweetie Home" (2014-present), which starred John Lloyd Cruz and Toni Gonzaga, is another TV stint for Miles. "Isa 'yun sa sobrang pinakamahal ko rin na show kasi parang pamilya talaga kami do'n. Sabay-sabay kami naglulunch lagi, 'yung kuwentuhan sa set...sobrang masaya," shared Miles about the family sitcom.
In between the aforementioned shows, Miles was doing a number of MMK episodes. "Inaasar nga po nila ako, sabi nila regular show ko raw 'yun nung bata ako," the artist said.
This year, Miles takes on the challenge of heavy drama acting. When asked how she prepared for "And I Love You So," she revealed her secret: "Ulit-ulitin basahin 'yung script. Ipasok mo sa sarili mo 'yung character mo, isipin mo na ikaw talaga 'yun." She also acknowledged the support and patience coming from Director Onat Diaz.
"And I Love You So" will start airing tomorrow, December 7, after the "All of Me" timeslot. Watch out for the breakthrough performance of Miles Ocampo!
