Filipinos who made waves internationally in 2015


From dominating international beauty contests to proving that Pinoys are world-class talents through shows abroad, 2015 has been a great year of recognition for Filipinos.

Before this year ends, gives you a list of Filipinos who significantly made waves in the international scene this 2015.
1. Lea Salonga

After coaching in The Voice Kids season 2, actress and singer Lea Salonga returned to doing a Broadway show abroad with the musical play Allegiance. 

As part of their play’s promotional activity, Lea got featured in the international magazine, Vanity Fair. 
2. Rachelle Ann Go

Rachelle Ann Go first made a name in the international scene when she was cast in West End’s Miss Saigon in 2014. 

This year, Rachelle, who plays the role of Fantine in Les Miserables, made waves again after she performed “I Dreamed a Dream” at the West End Live in London. 

3. John Philip “Balang” Bughaw

Balang, who also joined the It’s Showtime segment Mini Me, was the six-year-old boy who was invited to the Ellen DeGeneres Show last May where he performed “Bang Bang.”
4. XB Gensan

Dance group XB Gensan, who was the first grand champion of It’s Showtime, was hailed the grand winner of the annual street dance contest called Dance2Dance Competition held in Switzerland last November. 

5. 4th Impact

Formerly called the Gollayan Sisters when they joined It’s Showtime few years back, 4th Impact went from joining South Korea’s Superstar K6 as girl group MICA to X Factor UK where they made it to the show’s top 5 last November.

6. El Gamma Penumbra

Shadow play group El Gamma Penumbra, who was first discovered when they became a finalist of Pilipinas Got Talent, was hailed the grand champion of the very first Asia’s Got Talent last May. 

7. Gerphil Flores

Although she finished third place in Asia’s Got Talent, opera singer Gerphil Flores drew the interest of jury member, international music producer David Foster, telling her that, “The world is going to know about you.” 

8. Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach 

Former Star Magic artist, Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach was declared Miss Universe 2015 last December 21 (Philippine time) in Las Vegas, USA. However, her victory got controversial after pageant host Steve Harvey initially announced the wrong winner. Nonetheless, this made her a hot topic everywhere while her winning answer in the Q&A portion, “I want to show the world, the universe, rather, that I am confidently beautiful with a heart,” earned the approval of netizens.
