Despite the increase in number of newer and younger stars, Jericho Rosales remained secure about his position in the industry.
The actor, who stars in the Metro Manila Film Festival entry Walang Forever opposite Jennylyn Mercado, explained why he acts and feels that way.
"Hindi naman ako deadma [sa issues]. I still care sa actions ko and sa lahat. But kunyari sa presscons, I've known you guys for so long. Parang umabot nako sa stage na relax lang ako," he explained.
Jericho stressed that he respects his job and the people that he works with in the business. But more than anything else, he pointed out that, "I know my worth bilang contributor sa industry natin and alam ko na I belong here."
The 36-year-old actor explained that he tends to brush off the existence of a "growing competition" in the industry only because it's not really something that could help become a better actor.
"Hindi kasi makakadagdag sa mga araw ko 'yan eh, parang ganon. So I just focus kung saan ako magaling at kung saan may opportunity ako. Halimbawa, ganyan bagong project katulad nito na rom-com go lang ako, na kahit na feeling ko naiilang ako. Go lang, para I still learn. Open lang ako," said Jericho.
Meanwhile, more than a year after tying the knot with model-host Kim Jones, Jericho remains consistent in saying that they still have no plans of having a baby anytime soon.
"Kasi gusto pa namin mag-travel together. Then, ako may mga ganyan [movie]. Mahirap na kapag may karga-karga ka na eh," he said, adding that his 28-year-old wife Kim Jones is still quite young.
Jericho happily shared that he has already adjusted well to the married life. He even described the experience as "Para lang kaming mag-boyfriend at girlfriend pero magkasama ang kami sa isang bubong. Tsaka mas madalas kaming magkita, magkatabi kami sa kama."
But even if they have arguments every now and then, the former Bridges of Love star revealed that Kim remains very supportive of his craft, even if it meant getting paired and having steamy scenes with other women.
"She's a very secure woman and alam niya na my hear belongs to her. Alam niya na this is my job and na ginagawa ko lagi na maging effective ako at magaling ako sa trabaho. Siyempre passion ko ito eh. Before she married me, alam niya na 'yun," he pointed out.
But the support and understanding is not one way, according to him. Jericho shared that he too makes it a point to support Kim in all her endeavors, either as a host or as a blogger.
"Like sa work niya, I see the beauty in what she does and of course her beauty and kung papaano nagma-match ang life niya tsaka ang personality niya. And then I support her palagi. Kung gusto niya mag-travel, go. Kung gusto niyang gumawa ng ganito, go. I'm there to support her, encourage her, kapag low times niya lift her up ganyan," he said. "Sometimes I just shut my mouth and listen. Sometimes girls just want to be heard. So nakikinig rin ako ganon."
The best thing about their marriage and about having their individual careers according to him, is that they never compete with one another.
"Her success is my success. Kapag nakita ko siya na very successful, nagre-reflect sakin 'yun eh. Sinasabi samin ng mga nag-ga-guide samin na, kapag nakita mo ang partner mo na nag-flourish, it also means that you're doing a good job. Kasi binibigyan mo siya ng encouragement, support ganyan," he ended.
