Hillarie Parungao leaves the country on November 21 to prepare for the Miss World competition.
After being crowned Miss World Philippines 2015
last October, Hillarie Parungao is preparing herself for an even bigger challenge as she represents the country in the 65th Miss World Pageant in Sanya, China on December 19. The 24-year-old beauty queen from Nueva Vizcaya is leaving early to prepare for the international competition.
"I’ll be flying out on the 21st of November. I will say that I’m 100% ready since the time that I won the competition because this is really something that I want to do for the Philippines, for myself and my family so I’m really putting a lot of effort, dedication and my whole heart into it,” she shared during her send-off press conference held last November 12 at the C3 Events Place in Greenhills, San Juan.
One of the advantages Hillarie said she has is her experience as a professional model and as a Nursing graduate. "In my everyday living, even before I decided to take up nursing it was already something that was innate in me. I really made sure that I was really helpful to other people and to understand them and to be more empathetic. So I guess when I go to China it will be a big factor for me because I’m not only physically ready, not only intellectually ready but I’m also emotionally ready for everything,” she explained.
Hillarie said most of the preparations were for the question and answer portion of the pageant. "I don’t want to be like the typical beauty queen that is really just pretty. I want them to know that we Filipinas are not only beautiful but that we are very intellectual as well,” she added.
With the pressure of having to bring home the crown after Megan Young won the title in 2013, Hillarie saidshe will just follow the advice of her mentors. "It might sound cliché, but the advice I got from everyone is just to be myself. They kept telling me that when I get there I should just be myself. I should just project myself as who I am. Because in the first place that’s why I won the national competition. So what is the best way to really showcase who I am in the Philippines than to just relax, compete and just smile all the time,” she shared. During the pageant, Hillarie will be wearing gowns by top Filipino designers Randy Ortiz, Bing Cristobal, Mak Tumang, and Cherry Veric.
Apart from the pageant, Hillarie said she looks forward to seeing more of that part of China which is regarded as the “Hawaii of China.” "Of course I’m excited to see the beach because I’m really a beach person. And also how they manage have such a beautiful island. The Grand Theater in China is really something I’m looking forward to seeing because I’ve only seen it in photos so it would be very wonderful to see it in person. I also want to see the Miss World Organization too. I’m very much excited for that, too,” she admitted.
Not just your typical model, Hillarie admitted she loves doing all kinds of sports. She also founded an initiative in her province called “Katuwang” (“Partner in English”), a program aimed at alleviating childhood mortality. "Aside from being a beauty queen, I’m actually very athletic so it wasn’t really a surprise to everyone that I won the sports challenge during the competition. Not only with the beauty with a purpose project but I’m really very much into charity events even when I was younger. It’s really something that I do on my free time when I have spare money I want to help out other people,” she said.
With the pageant just one week shy of Christmas, Hillarie said that winning the top title would be the perfect gift for her to receive this year. “A perfect Christmas gift would be the crown of course! (laughs) What else would I want for myself and the Philippines? I really want to win the crown,” she said.
