Melissa Ricks shares whom she was really rooting for during the recent season of ‘Pinoy Big Brother.’
As a young mom, Melissa Ricks admitted she had to really work hard to slim down at the recent launch of Starmobile’s Knight Spectra. “Mahirap kasi hindi pa ako masyado ready. Gusto ko muna i-enjoy being a mom kasi pag nag-diet ako dire-diretso na yan eh. So for the past how many years naka-diet ako di ba? So ngayon in-enjoy ko muna, splurge muna ako and then eventually babalik din naman ako. When I’m ready to go back to show business then yun. Sabi nila when ako babalik, sabi ko sa kanila when there’s a good role that comes along that I feel is right, tatanggapin ko. Wala naman akong restrictions dahil mom na ako ngayon. Siguro
I just have to be prepared,” she said.
Melissa admitted there is pressure to look slimmer especially with other celebrity moms looking sexier like Ina Raymundo. "Actually sa mga friends ko pa lang na sila Say (Alonzo), Helga (Krapf) at Ara Mina ang se-sexy na nila so na-pe-pressure talaga ako. Sabi nila, ‘Tara mag-beach tayo!’ Sabi ko, ‘Sandali lang naman.’ (laughs) Pero kanya-kanyang time din yan. Siguro mag-co-concentrate ako dun pag okay na okay na. So they help me din naman. They encourage me a lot,” she shared during the Starmobile Knight Spectra dual rear cameraphone launch held last November 10 at the Edsa Shangri-la hotel in Pasig city.
The 25-year-old actress admitted she does miss being in front of the camera especially after doing an episode of Maalaala Mo Kaya earlier this year. "Siyempre hindi mo rin maiwasan ma-miss yung mga ganitong events kasi nasanay ka na pag artista ka madami kang ginagawa araw-araw so ngayon parang step by step nasasanay na ako ulit kasi back to zero na naman ako, nahihiya na naman ako, yung mga ganun. So it’s fun going out and meeting a lot of people, making new friends. Sa MMK naman I always said na yung mga dramatic roles medyo okay lang ako siguro. I can accept those kinds of roles pero I want more of kontrabida roles. Dun ako nag-e-enjoy. Yung mga ganung roles ang mas nagugustuhan ko,” she admitted.
The talented actress said having her baby Kiera really changed her life. "Ang sabi ng mga tao (
having a baby) is life-changing pero sobrang totoo. Nag-iba talaga lahat.
Everything revolves around your baby, kung anong nakakabuti sa kanya,
what can make her life better, yung pag-iipon mo, kung anong gagawin mo, anong bibilhin mo, lahat iisipin mo na para sa bata,”
That’s why Melissa admits it will take a while before she has another baby. "Ay hindi muna. Sobrang huge responsibility ng isang bata and we’re taking everything slowly. Slowly but surely nag-iipon kami kasi we want to provide a good life for the baby. Hindi naman ganun kadali na kung gusto mo ng isa pa. Akala mo dati madali lang pero it’s a huge responsibliity talaga. Sa wedding naman pag nag-propose may wedding (laughs). Pero wala pang proposal eh. Siguro right now yung priority namin is taking care of the baby. Raising her properly is the most important thing,” she added.
Having been a product of the ABS-CBN reality talent search Star Circle Quest herself back in 2004, Melissa said she enjoys watching Pinoy Big Brother as well, especially the recently concluded season. "Actually ever since I’ve been a huge fan of PBB pero ang gusto ko sana manalo was Ylona and Miho. Sila talaga ang bet ko tapos na-hook talaga ako sa bahay. Nanunuod ako pati yung yaya ko naka-24/7 kaya nakinuod na rin ako. So nakakatuwa lang talaga. Pero si Jimboy ang nanalo di ba so congratulations kay Jimboy and kay Miho,” she said.
"Natutuwa kasi ako kay Ylona eh. She’s very genuine, nakakatawa siya. And she’s very, very talented. Ang galing niya kumanta. Ang galing din nung acting nila kila Direk and then si Miho naman kasi siyempre she has a baby so nakaka-relate ako and then she’s very genuine as well. Gusto ko yung Tommy-Miho tandem nila eh so nakakakilig so sila ang gusto ko lang talaga,” she added.
Now that PBB has finished for the year, Melissa hoped the latest batch of winners will continue to perform their best in the outside world especially if they are entering showbiz. "Siyempre mahirap lalo na kanila hindi sila masyadong nag-training in the field. Ngayon pa lang sila lalabas sa totoong world kumbaga and then showbiz isn’t a joke. Mahirap talaga siya, nakaka-stress so just take it a day at a time and enjoy. Savor the moment kasi minsan lang talaga yan and yun lang, just enjoy the journey and have fun. Galingan niyo ha,” she advised.
