Richard Gomez talks about his mayoral race in Ormoc

111115-RICHARD_main.jpgYesterday, in an interview with Boy Abunda on “Tonight With Boy Abunda,” Richard Gomez shared how running for mayor of Ormoc City, Leyte in next year’s election became a tough decision for him.

"It was a big decision for me. Kasi ang ganda ng takbo ng career ko. This year, last year, and next year will be a better career for me as an actor, “ he said.

He also added that several projects in his career in showbiz would be gone once he seats as Mayor of Ormoc but he really is willing to improve the city.

Ang daming trabaho na mawawala but there is so much to do in Ormoc City. Ang ganda ng lugar namin doon. And ang laki ng potential niya to improve, para mapaganda, para mapasikat 'yung lugar and if that government will continue, walang mangyayari sa kanya.”

He also said, “Kung gusto mong tumulong as a regular person, yes you can. Pero kung talagang gusto mong tumulong sa maraming tao, you really have to be in politics. Bakit? Kasi you can make use of the government's resources.”

Richard also revealed that his only daughter Juliana opposed his decision to run again.

“Juliana's 15 now. And if I win in next year's elections, I will be there for three years and I will not be with Juliana every day. And that's a big sacrifice. Juliana talked to me, sabi niya, 'Dad, sana wag ka na lang tumakbo.' And I was quiet for a while kasi I understand na kailangan niya 'yung time, but I made her understand. And tinanggap naman niya."

Richard will run against Ormoc’s incumbent mayor Edward Codilla next year.
