Metro Manila Film Festival executive Dominic Du has confirmed that the Erik Matti-helmed film Honor Thy Fathe
r also known as Conman is officially joining the annual film festival.
In a report by the Philippine Daily Inquirer, a slot opened for the John Lloyd Cruz-starrer after director Gil Portes’ biopic Hermano Puli withdrew from the competition.
Honor Thy Father premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival last September and received favorable remarks from The Hollywood Reporter.
This inclusion didn’t really come as a surprise as Honor Thy Father, along with Jeffrery Jeturian’s Lakambini, were actually announced mid this year as part of the festival’s “reserved films.” Meaning, they are expected to replace other films that wouldn’t meet the deadline or the requirements of the board, or this case when a withdrawal from the festival is filed.
The box-office actor, in a recent interview on Tonight with Boy Abunda, revealed that his film would be opening the upcoming Cinema One Originals Film Festival on November 8 at Trinoma Cinema.
As of this writing, the official entries for the upcoming Metro Manila Film Festival are as follows:
