JK Labajo shares how he handles fame: ‘Always be humble’

100315-jk_PUSH.jpgAfter joining the initial season of The Voice Kids last year, JK Labajo admitted he felt one step closer to his dream of making it into showbiz through singing. But the 14-year-old performer said his biggest passion is really acting. “Before The Voice Kids talagang dream ko maging actor. Kumbaga yung mga tipong MMK version ng Ipaglaban Mo. Madami pa akong puwedeng ibang drama. Talagang acting is my passion. Kapag gusto niyo yung ginagawa niyo parang nalilimutan niyo na yung pagod, yung hirap. If you love what you’re doing you forget about all the bad stuff. I'm okay sa kahit sino pang i-pair sa akin,” he said.

Since joining the cast of the hit Primetime Bida series Pangako Sa ‘Yo, JK has become more visible as an actor on television. But if he were asked to choose, JK said he hopes to be able to hone both talents “Actually ang daming nagtatanong sa akin about that question. What will I choose, acting or singing? Tapos ako naman, 'Oo nga noh, ano kaya pipiliin ko?' What about both? Kasi ako kaya ko naman for now. Parang kinakaya ko naman isabay yung acting and singing. Like Mondays acting, Tuesday singing then acting ulit. I got that going which is pretty nice. Kung tatanungin ako if may ‘K’ na ba ako umarte, it depends on them. Depende yun sa kung ano ang gusto ng tao na makita nila sa iyo. Do they want you to act or do they want you to sing? Parang ganun ang nangyayari eh. Ako I want to do both kasi it's really my dream kaya now I'm achieving it and I'm so thankful about it. I feel so amazing, awesome, so thankful. Nakakasama ko yung mga big stars sa set ngayon. Na-sa-star struck pa rin ako kay ate Kathryn Bernardo at Jodi Sta. Maria. I'm so thankful and looking forward for more shows,” he shared.

When asked if wants to become a successful heartthrob someday like Daniel Padilla and Enrique Gil, JK said he will do his best to achieve that goal without changing himself. "Hopefully po. Actually the very common thing about it is to keep yourself on the ground, to always be humble. Kapag feeling mo na magiging ganito ka na tapos parang naging mayabang ka na, parang yung tao hindi ka magugustuhan. I'm not saying this para magustuhan ako ng tao pero sinabi ko sa sarili ko to always be humble and to keep your feet on the ground,” he shared.
Working on Pangako Sa ‘Yo with Andrea Brillantes and Grae Fernandez are also what makes acting fun for JK right now. "Since Hawak Kamay days we're close. Makulit din sila. Actually hindi ako nag-expect na makulit din yung dalawa eh (laughs). Magkasundo kami lahat. We've been friends since Hawak Kamay and actually kaming tatlo ni Darren (Espanto) we've been close friends na. Super fun sila kasama especially Grae. Talagang pag nasa set naghihintay kami, mag-se-snakes and ladders lang kami (laughs) and yung mga typical na chess. Yung parang nagkakasiyahan lang kami basta masaya silang dalawa kasama,” he admitted.

JK SAID he is even ready to be given a love team even though personally he has never been in love. "Never ko pa naranasan yung pag-ibig kasi for me I am focused muna ako sa work kasi maraming nagsasabi at this age puwede na daw pero for me I'm just focusing on my work,” he said.

Even at a young age, JK said he has always wanted to do things to make his mother proud. She passed away from pancreatic cancer a few years ago. "I feel that I'm achieving my dreams, our dreams, pero without her. Hindi ko actually alam kung ano yung nararamdaman ko ngayon. I don't know if it's a blessing, maybe she's here with me now. Or talagang hindi ko po alam. Mahirap siya i-explain. Feeling ko parang naging close lang kami nung nagkraoon siya ng sakit kasi I was there for her. Iniwan ko yung pag-aaral ko para alagaan siya. Yung feeling na dapat gumaling ka kasi sana huwag mo ako iwan. Nandun ako for her whole journey kung journey ang maitatawag niyo po dun. Four months ata. And dinaanan kami ng earthquake sa Cebu at ng typhoon Yolanda so kumbaga mas nag-worse yung sakit niya,” he shared.

If he had a message he wanted to share with her, JK said he just wants his mom to be proud of him. "Sorry for the hinanakit, for the sama ng loob. Sorry kasi I grew up without you kasi you were with your other family. Sorry and I love you so much and thank you for being you and being my mom. I'm so lucky na ikaw yung naging mom ko,” he said.

When asked about his German father, JK said he wishes he had more information about him. "Never, kumbaga hindi ko talaga alam, I think my mom or my lola, yung feeling na may tinatago sila. Kasi talagang I was asking kung saan si Daddy. Parang yung feeling na parang iniiwasan nila yung sagot and I was asking my mom talagang hindi siya sumasagot. I don't know the exact reason why my dad left me or baka trip lang niya talaga. Talagang never ko siya nakilala. I know his name and a picture from the 1980s. I did all the best I could (to find him) Umabot ako ng Friendster,” he explained.
