For the first time in her 30 years in show business, Regine Velasquez-Alcasid is staging her first-ever non-pop concert titled Regine at the Theater.
Regine at the Theater will have songs from popular musicals from here and abroad. During the press conference of her upcoming concert, Regine shared that she has long wanted to stage a concert with the same theme along with her late father and mentor Mang Gerry Velasquez.
The Songbird’s concert guests include Aicelle Santos, Jonalyn Viray, and Audie Gemora. When asked why her husband Ogie Alcasid is not one of her guests, Regine explained that since they got married they have rarely worked together on a project. A major factor she said is because they belong on different TV networks, Regine is with GMA while Ogie is with TV5.
Even if they are not working together, Regine stressed that they have a good married life and that most of her decisions are anchored to her husband. One such decision is who they would be supporting in the upcoming elections.
I don’t really want to be involved. I’m usually not very keen. Not for anything else. [But] if ever I’m going to support a candidate dahil susuportahan ko ang sinusuportahan ng asawa ko,” she said.
While she wants to be apolitical, Regine trusts that her husband could make the best decision on who to support especially since he is the type to make diligent research about it.
During the past national elections, the singer-songwriter was among the most active supporters of President Noynoy Aquino. However, recent reports have aligned Ogie not with Liberal Party presidential candidate Mar Roxas but with Grace Poe.
“First of all I want to give you a background. My husband will not just support just because of money. Never. Or because wala lang. he would always support someone na he thinks would be able to do something about our country. Ganon siya,” said Regine.
Despite being careful with his choice, Regine stressed that Ogie is not perfect.
“He doesn’t see naman the future.
Catch Regine at the Theater on November 6, 7, 20 and 21 at The Theater at Solaire.
