Gomez says he wants to help his wife in public service.
During the grand presscon for You’re My Home held last October 21 inside the ABS-CBN compound,
Richard Gomez admitted it was true he filed for candidacy for the position of mayor of Ormoc city. "When it was offered to me, wala talaga akong
plans to run in the next elections. I decided lang the night before the last day of filing. Hindi puwedeng walang tatakbo sa
Ormoc so I took the challenge. Hindi ko puwedeng iwanan si
Lucy ng walang tatakbong
mayor sa Ormoc,” he shared.
In the event that he does become a public servant, Richard said he already knows his acting career will take a backseat. Alam ko naman if I’m going to win as mayor sa Ormoc madami talaga akong magagawa for the people of that place,” he admitted.
Richard said he is thankful for the growing popularity of the return of his onscreen pairing with Dawn Zulueta, but he knows he also has a higher calling. "It’s very seldom na yung artista magkakaroon ng second wind sa career nila so this was a very big decision on my part to let go of this, what do you call it, this success. Sacrifices had to be made. But at the same time, you never know kung anong mangyayari sa akin. Kung palarin akong maging mayor of Ormoc one day I will make sure na kayo (the media) pupunta dun sa Ormoc at marami tayong gagawin. Talagang it’s really a big challenge for me. If you really want to bring a big change sa tao you really have to be in a government position. That’s where you can make decisions and that’s where you can make changes. Pero as a regular person you can only do so much,” he shared.
The You’re My Home actor said that even though it took almost a year of shooting before their series finally premieres on primetime Bida, he said the wait for the much-anticipated family drama is worth it. We can say na very productive yung set namin na kahit kailangan namin maghintay, maghihintay kami. So there was no reason for us na magwala,” he said.
