People will hear a different side of Erik Santos in his new album, Champion Reborn.
The carrier single entitled “Tandaan Mo ‘To” is a collaboration with rapper Gloc 9 and deviates from his usual ballad songs.
During a bloggers conference and listening session of part one of his latest album, Erik said this is part of his reinvention as an artist.
“’Yung ginagawa ko for the past 12 years, puro ballads. And ‘yung platform kasi ng industry ngayon, mga digital, ganyan, nag-iiba na rin. So siyempre, kung ilalagay ko ‘yung sarili ko ‘dun sa fans, kung ‘yun at ‘yun ‘yung maririnig sa’kin, syempre ayoko rin pagsawaan ako ng tao so kailangan palaging may bago makita rin sa’kin,” he explained about reinventing his music.
Although he wants reinvention, he said that he will still stick to doing ballad songs. “Unang una, I’m still a singer. I am a recording artist. I am a concert performer. So, ‘dun lang siya umiikot. So ibig sabihin, this is just a part of my reinvention as an artist. Hindi naman ibig sabihin na nandito na ako, ito na talaga ‘yung sound ko. Stick pa rin ako ‘dun sa core ko which is ballad kasi that’s what I do best, doing ballad songs. Para lang meron lang bago na makita ‘yung audience, ‘yung market and para palawakin na rin ‘yung market ko,” he said.
When asked how he prepared for this album compared to the ones he did in the past, Erik said that he has been very meticulous with this. “Every time na meron akong studio session, I see to it na in good shape ‘yung voice ko, nakapag-treadmill ako para bumuka ‘yung lungs ko para ‘yung boses ko maganda sa recording,” he answered.
Moreover, he added, “Kahit nagrerecording, dapat talaga prepared ka eh. May mga preparations talaga for a recording session para ‘yung register ng boses mo doon sa CD maganda rin.”
