As one of the celebrities excited for the arrival of the Pope, Janine Gutierrez admits she is like one of the many Filipinos who admire His Holiness. “I just want to thank him for being such an inspiring individual kasi di ba we all know that the church is very traditional but this pope is so refreshing because he advocates so many new and modern things like he’s on Twitter,” she says. The 25-year-old actress is also happy for all the blessings in her life like her new endorsement deal with Boardwalk Clothing. “Super nagpapasalamat ako sa Boardwalk kasi talagang inaalagaan nila lahat ng endorsers sila tapos they gave me such a warm welcome. Talagang nagulat ako sa mga billboard na linalabas nila kasi never ako nagkaroon ng ganun kalaking exposure. I’m so thankful for Boardwalk at saka fannaman talaga ako ng mga damit nila so win-win for me,” she says during the Boardwalk presscon held last January 13 at Luxent Hotel in Quezon City.
When her mom Lotlot De Leon won the Best Supporting Actress award from the recent MMFF for Kubot: The Aswang Chronicles 2, noone was prouder than Janine. “Super happy ko para sa kanya kasi alam ko na talagang deserving siya. Lahat naman ng napapanuod ko sa kanya kahit sa telebisyon alam ko na karapat dapat ng award kasi magaling talaga si mama. Idol ko talaga siya pagdating sa pag-arte. She was so happy, yung speech niya super saya niya kaya happy ako para sa kanya,” she admits. Janine also admits she hopes to achieve the same someday. “Oo siyempre lahat naman ng artista pangarap na magkaroon ng acting award. Gusto ko rin talaga sana,”she adds.
Even though she doesn't normally ask for any advice from her mom when it comes to acting, Janine says she still learns a lot. “Madami siyang binibigay na advice pero pinaka-nakaka-affect sa akin yung nakikita ko kung paano siya magtrabaho. Parang she leads by example. Talagang sobrang sipag niya tapos lahat ng role niya kahit anong role, kahit yung sa Kubot kasi kakaiba yun kasi nakakatawa eh usually drama drama si mama tapos dun pa siya nanalo ng award so inspiring to see na lahat ng role niya nagagampanan niya ng mabuti at talagang napapansin siya kasi bigay na bigay siya sa lahat,” she explains.

After gracing the cover of several magazines in the first month of the year alone, Janine says she feels honored to get such an opportunity. “I’m super thankful and I’m happy about it. I’m lucky lang talaga that I get to be in those magazines. I enjoy it eh. It was in Hola, Metro, Star Studio at saka Manila Bulletin Style Weekend. My style is very classic. I just like to update it with a jacket or heels, But I really like the classic silhouettes, yung very clean looking,” she says. With her earnings from showbiz, Janine says she is saving up for own place. “Naghahanap ako ng condo ngayon. Meron na akong gusto so talagang pinagdadasal ko n asana mapunta siya sa akin at sana magkaroon ako ng madaming work para magka-condo ako (laughs),” she says.
The new Boardwalk endorser also expressed happiness for her friend Wynn Wynn Marquez who is in this year's running for Binibining Pilipinas. Even though she could just as easily join a beauty pageant with her statuesque beauty, Janine says it is not a possibility. “Supporter na lang po ako ni Wynn Wynn. Matagal ko ng sinasabi sa kanya na talagang pang-beauty queen si Wynn Wynn. Lahat naman tayo alam yan so good luck sa kanya. I wish her the best talaga. Hindi ko naman kasi talaga passion yun eh. Eh ayoko naman sumali ng half-hearted lang. Siyempre mas gusto ko yung pagbutihin kung ano yung ginagawa ko na yung pag-aartista kasi yun naman talaga yung gusto kong matutunan. So focused lang ako dito sa acting,” she shares.
After she and Elmo Magalona admitted they were a couple more than three months ago, Janine says they are both happy in their relationship and working on a series together in another network but have not made any plans for Valentine's Day yet, “I don’t know yet pero probably taping. Sana tuloy-tuloy taping luckily.”
