Jodi Sta. Maria on second chances: 'Hindi ko inakalang magiging posible pa pala'

092014-jodi_main.jpgAs the star of a long-running daytime series Be Careful With My Heart, Jodi Sta. Maria admits she enjoys the change of pace after doing the horror flick Maria Leonora Teresa. The 32-year-old actress was last seen on the big screen in the Star Cinema movie Cinco. “After four years siyempre nakaka-excite kasi siyempre sa four years na yun marami akong ibang ginawa. First time ulit na gagawa ako ng horror so very excited ako na ganitong pelikula ang ginawa ko. Ang nakakatuwa sa pelikulang ito kasi hindi lang siya basta horror, may puso siya at may drama din. And then situational yung comedy niya so talagang mapapaglaruan at magugustuhan ng mga tao,” she says.

In the movie, Jodi plays the role of a mother whose life revolves around her only daughter and when tragedy strikes their family, she must learn to cope with the loss of her daughter by channeling her affection towards a lifesize doll. People deal with pain and loss in different ways so you can't say na yung ginawa niya is tama or mali. I think whatever will work for the person I think dapat nating respetuhin and instead of judging that person, unawain natin sila at may pinagdadaanan yun,” she explains.

In real life, the single mom says she has also had experience with loss and learned to cope with it. “I think the closest person na nawala sa akin is my grandmother. Siya pa lang naman and it's just learning how to accept and let go. It's a reality of life that eventually everyone will go and it's just a matter of time. You just don't know when,” she reveals.

After joining showbiz in her teens, it looked like she had bid the industry goodbye when she got married in 2005 and had her son Thirdy. But Jodi's career seems to be stronger than before when she went back to acting and got cast in Be Careful with My Heart, a second chance at a success story she never expected could still happen at this point in her life. “Hindi na po kasi before everything, before all these things, I was content na with what I was doing and with what I have. And then suddenly na-bless pa ako na magagandang proyekto, nabigyan ako ng oportunidad na makagawa ng mga bagay sa career ko na hindi ko inakalang magiging posible pa pala. And siyempre lahat yan ipinagpapasalamat ko sa Panginoon. Alam ko na inihanda niya ako para dito, bago pa ako bigyan ng blessings ay he has prepared me first to make sure na maalagaan ko at ma-appreciate ko ng husto yung ibinigay niya,” she admits.
