Piolo Pascual shares the advice he gave to son Inigo on finding the right girl.
Now that his son is turning 18 next year, Piolo Pascual admitted he is excited at the prospect of dating again. The Hawak Kamay
actor made a promise to his Inigo that he would not enter into a relationship until then. “Hindi lang
excitement, I hope it happens soon. More than pressure I’m excited. Okay yun, it’s going to be fun. It’s fun to date and meet people I guess,” he said.
The 37-year-old actor said his son is mature enough to see him with other women. “Wala naman siyang choice eh. Alangan naman mag-pari ako di ba? (laughs) wala naman siyang choice. I want him to have a girlfriend, too. He’s got to accept that. It’s inevitable. We got to have partners,” he explained.
After his breakup with KC Concepcion over three years ago, Piolo has been linked to another Kapamilya actress Shaina Magdayao whom he will only admit is close to his heart. Piolo said his standards have not changed when it comes to women. “Hindi, I’m still traditional when it comes to being with anyone I guess for me what’s important is that you click, that you like each other, you respect each other, you have the same faith. So wala naman akong standard, sana lang hindi niya ako mahalin bilang artista. (laughs) Yun lang, as long as we have the same faith and the same God, that’s all that matters,” he explained.
Known as one of the country’s most sought-after leading men, Piolo said he has learned to accept his heartthrob status and being called “Papa P.” “At first honestly it was irritating because even men would call me Papa P even on the set. So of course I have a son who calls me Papa so that gives everyone less originality I guess (laughs). I’ve gotten used to it. It’s become a term of endearment,” he said.
After sharing the news that Inigo was recently offered a contract to join a boy band in the US, Piolo said he is proud of his son and has even shared some dating advice for him. “Just make sure that the girl loves the Lord more than him,” he said. When asked how he thinks his son will compare to his own former singing group The Hunks (which also included Diether Ocampo, Jericho Rosales, Carlos Agassi, and Bernard Palanca, Piolo humbly admitted, “Ah, you can’t compare, these are singers. Mga hubadero kami sa Hunks, that’s the only thing we could do (laughs).”
