Gary Valenciano to undergo stem cell treatment

080514-gary_main.jpgMr. Pure Energy Gary Valenciano is not looking to completely turning his back from the concert scene, but admits that he is now gradually slowing down.

Gary was able to stage a successful 30th Anniversary concert titled Arise Gary Valenciano The Repeat at the SM Mall of Asia Arena on Saturday with guests such as Regine Velasquez, Sam Concepcion, Iya Villania, The Manouvres, AKA Jam, Rico Blanco, and his children Gab and Kiana Valenciano.

“Well yeah I slowed down na kasi if you watched my past concerts ‘yun yung talagang pure energy ang thrust ko eh. ‘Yun ang ginawa ko ngayon,” he said in an interview after his concert.

According to Gary, his slowing down was mainly because he wanted to be remembered as a prized performer and not otherwise. “Ayoko kasi ‘yung manood ‘yung mga tao at sabihin nila ‘Ay hindi na niya kaya, dapat huminto na siya no?’ Ayoko ng ganon, mas mabuti pa ‘yung kaya pa niya and then stop. [Tapos ang reaksyon ng tao] ‘Oh bakit, sabagay matagal na rin siyang sumasayaw,’” he explained to the members of the press.

Gary still plans on dancing “pero siguro magiging awaited moment na ng mga tao na makita akong sumayaw kasi marami na talagang magagaling din ngayon who deserve also the limelight.”

Furthermore, he argued that younger stars like Sam Concepcion, Billy Crawford, Rayver Cruz, Vhong Navarro, and even his son Gab “also deserved to be seen.”

“‘Yung akin lang siguro ang kaibahan I really like to sing and dance but I’m first a singer more than a dancer,” he added.

To assure that he would be able to do the things he loves in the future, Gary shared that he’s undergoing a stem cell treatment for his knee come September. “Kasi medyo masakit na talaga siya. I have hardly any cartilage left, ‘yung meniscus ko has multiple tears and it has been like this for years so I’m going through a procedure na sana mag-regenerate ‘yung cartilage ko,” explained the hitmaker.

The treatment which will be done here, he said, is something that he badly needs. "I’ll give myself a little time na mawala ‘yung pain and then hataw ulit. Kasi hindi ko talaga mapigilan ‘yung sarili ko eh. Even if sinasabi ko na sa sarili ko na ‘Tama na, tama na’ hindi eh," he said.

How long will be on hiatus while on the said treatment? “No it won’t take that long kasi it will naturally regenerate so by August 6 kasi matagal akong mawawala. Babalik ako dito siguro mga last week of August or maybe second week of September pa. But when I come back in September the first thing that I will do is this [the treatment]. So that I can prepare for the other things that I have to do for TFC kasi we’re still going around. I only need a short time to rest tapos pwede na ulit,” the singer said.

The total performer who is turning 50 in a few days’ time had nothing in his heart but gratitude especially to the fans who made his concert repeat a smashing success.

Asked if he had a birthday wish that he hopes to fulfill, he simply replied, “No I think this is it. I think binanggit ko sa ibang mga presscons na sa lahat ng mga concerts ko in the past 30 years ito ‘yung pinakamaraming request for a repeat so I think ito na, napatunayan ng mga tao sa akin na gusto talaga nila na magkaroon ako ng repeat.”
