A few days since confirming that she is expecting her first baby , actress Melissa Ricks opened up about how she found out about her pregnancy almost two months ago.
Describing the feeling as scary and nerve-wracking at the same time, Melissa during an interview with The Buzz, which aired on Sunday shared, “I was in Boracay with my friends for Labor Day and the last two days that we were there I started to feel sick. Bumalik po ako sa Manila sabi ng friend ko mag-pregnancy test daw kami.”
The reason why her friend prodded her to take the test was because, “lagi akong masusuka, nahihilo, inaantok, ayokong lumabas.”
Melissa shared that she was initially unconvinced by the pregnancy test’s result.
“So nung tinake namin ‘yung pregnancy test, I went to the bathroom and then I saw it. Sabi ko ‘Hindi, hindi ‘yan. Ano kaba.’ So I took another one and positive pareho pero hindi pa rin ako naniwala kasi sabi ko it must be wrong, we have to get checked sa doctor talaga. And then when I went to the doctor, ayun, they saw the heartbeat. Seven weeks. I found out exactly noong seven weeks ako,” shared the 24-year-old actress.
While she considers their upcoming bundle of joy a blessing, the former Honesto star blatantly confessed that she got scared of the repercussions of her being pregnant at such a young age.
“Telling my family, how will I tell my friends, sa mga taong sumusuporta sakin, sa management. Parang it was just really scary. And I was scared kung ano ang sasabihin ng mga tao kasi no one really knew that I was in a relationship and parang feeling ko nasira ‘yung mga plano para sakin and baka ma-disappoint sila,” she shared, adding that, “Pero it turned out everyone was happy for me.”
The Star Circle Quest discovery in an earlier Push report related how she revealed the news to her parents who both very supportive on this new chapter of her life.
According to The Buzz report, Melissa and her non-showbiz boyfriend Charles have known each other from years ago for they went to the same school together. However they only got closer last year.
Melissa says she immediately shared the news to Charles upon learning about her condition, saying that, “Yeah tinext ko right then after nung ultrasound sabi ko meron ngang baby. Hindi rin naman siya nag-hesitate, tinanong niya ako kung ilang weeks na and then I sent him the picture of the ultrasound.”
But the thing is both her parents, as with the public, are not aware that she’s even in a relationship with Charles. So it took another level of revelation for her to tell her parents about him, but so far it’s only his father who lives here in the country who has met him.
She described, “We had dinner sa bahay. First time kong nakitang sobrang tahimik ni Charles kasi siyempre sobrang nahihiya siya and that was the first time na magharap-harap kami and siyempre hindi naman biro na humarap sa isang ama diba. Lalo na ‘yung daddy ko. And then it turned out well. He was just asking kung ano ba ang balak niya para sakin.”
Among the questions asked by her father was whether they are tying the knot and where they plan to live soon as their baby is born. To which Melissa said, “Sabi namin we’ve talked about it but right now the priority is the baby and how we’re gonna take care of the baby.”
Right now she says, she and Charles are already looking for a place to live in as well as possible names for their baby. She further revealed that they are hoping to have a baby girl for their first child.
Through all that’s happened and is bound to happen, Melissa assured that she would be back to being active in showbiz after her pregnancy.
“I was scared na siyempre it would probably take me almost a year and a half this whole process—having the baby, losing the weight. Pero ako I believe na I’ve worked really hard to get this far and I have the talent. Hindi man ako ang pinakamagaling I always do my best. Sana pagkatapos kong manganak I will be back,” she said.
