After Dingdong Dantes surprised everyone including longtime girlfriend Marian Rivera by getting down on one knee for a very public proposal on national TV last Saturday, August 9, many wonder if and when other popular showbiz couples will follow suit. PUSH takes an intimate look at the Tinseltown’s most budding and enduring relationships in the hopes that they too will eventually end up at the altar sooner rather than later.
Considered as having one of the most low-key romances in the showbiz industry, Toni Gonzaga and director Paul Soriano have surpassed time and controversy to maintain their seven-year relationship. They first met at the concert of Gary Valenciano which Paul directed.
Although Paul was rumored to have already proposed to Toni when they vacationed in New York together last year, the Pinoy Big Brother host said that no such thing happened and that they would not be keeping it secret in the event that it does. The two simply enjoyed a few days together after which Paul flew back to L.A and Toni stayed in NY with her family. The couple has always been known to support and understand each other’s endeavors, with Toni describing their relationship as “casual” in a sense that they don’t need to be clingy in order to feel secure with each other. In past interviews, she admitted that Paul is the most positive person she knows and is the quality that draws her to him the most. Paul said he is just waiting for clear signs from Toni before he finally proposes.
Toni admitted she is already used to getting asked when Paul will pop the question but there is no hurry for them since they both know that their priorities lie in pursuing their passions and career before they eventually settle down and start their own family. During the presscon for her album Celestine last June, Toni admitted that she had actually composed a wedding song. "I have a song that I wrote not for the wedding, but 'yung feeling ko sa amin ni direk Paul. It was actually a song para kapag ikakasal ako, it has something to do with walking down the aisle and seeing his face and knowing that he is going to be with me for the rest of my life. Parang ganoon," she shared.
Paul has already reportedly had a house built for them to move into when the time comes they do get married. In an interview with ABS-CBNNews.com last June, the talented director said he is already looking forward to spending his life with Toni. “We’ve been together for seven years already and there’s already an understanding. We don’t even have to ask or text each other anymore but we’re already there for each other. We are pretty much part of each other’s life already. That’s the beauty of being in a relationship that’s lasted this long,” he said.
