With Marian Rivera and Dingdong Dantes’s recent engagement, some people couldn’t help but view Dingdong’s public proposal as something to do with his rumored political plans.
During their Royal Announcement press conference on Friday, Dingdong cried foul over the accusation that he’s using his personal life to gain sympathy for the upcoming 2016 elections.
Calling the rumor a “pretty unfair judgment” he lamented, “Para sa akin lang naman, ibinabalik lang namin ito. Like what we’ve said, everyone has been part of our love story. May option din naman talaga kami to really keep this private, but hindi namin mede-deny ang fact that we both started in GMA. Nagkakilala kami dahil sa isang TV show [Marimar].”
The actor-host went on to explain that they announced their engagement for the fans who supported them ever since they started as a couple. “You were with us in all of our milestones together. Itong pag-iisang dibdib namin, we also consider this as an event that will be really memorable sa amin. Kumbaga sa milestone, pinakamatindi para sa aming dalawa,” Dingdong said.
The star highlighted that their life would “definitely be private” after their wedding, but “in celebrations, in occasions like this, I think it’s just right to invite our dear friends, mga taong naging bahagi talaga ng samahan namin.”
He also clarified that seeking public office remains on the backburner for now. “As of now, wala talaga. Sobrang dami naman ng aking responsibilidad, especially in my soon-to-be-husband thing. So, 'andun muna ako,” he said.
Another issue that cropped up after their sudden announcement was that Marian is supposedly pregnant. “Hindi pa, sayang sana magdilang anghel ka,” she said. She added, “Oo gusto na talaga. Mas lalo siya,” pointing to her fiancé.
“‘Yung totoo talaga gusto na talaga namin pero siyempre marami kaming kino-consider like for example kelan ‘yan? Kasi ‘di ba minsan kapag hindi mo pinaplano dumarating pero anything’s possible,” Marian continued.
Dingdong openly addressed the fact that he and Marian will be discussing about prenuptial agreement. “Paguusapan palang namin ‘yan. ‘Yan ang isa sa mga bagay na hindi maaaring hindi pansinin. Yes definitely it’s part of our agenda that we have to finalize,” he shared.
With money being the root of many problems in a marriage, Dingdong said, “Ayaw naming mangyari ‘yon base narin sa mga nakita naming experiences ng mga tao in the past that’s why ito’y isang bagay na dapat liwanagin rin.”
Marian and Dingdong shared that their wedding will be on December 30 at the Immaculate Conception Cathedral in Cubao. They revealed that they chose the aforementioned church because “Ang unang-una pong naging factor namin para pumili ng lugar is a place kung saan it’s both meaningful sa amin pareho. Since dun ako lumaki dun sa area na yun—in fact, dun ako bininyagan—pero ‘yan din yung isa sa mga simbahan na madalas naming puntahan [ni Marian] when we got together. Aside from the fact that it’s very beautiful inside.”
The couple admitted that they never really made plans from the moment that they got engaged the first time, some two years ago which is why there are still a lot of details about the wedding that they are in the process of finalizing.
But what is sure though is that Marian’s Maids of Honor would be her celebrity best friends Ana Feleo and Roxanne Barcelo while Dingdong would have his brother Angelo Dantes as his Best Man. Even if they are yet to speak with the other personalities whom they hope will be their principal sponsors, Batangas Governor Vilma Santos-Recto would definitely be part of it.
“Actually, nung natapos yung Marian… (the TV special where the proposal took place) siya (Governor Vilma) ang isa sa mga kauna-unahang nag-text sa akin, na nag-congratulate. Sabi niya, ‘Congratulations, my inaanak.’ So, alam niyo na ‘yun. Sobrang sweet niya,” the 30-year-old actress revealed.
Dingdong shared that they originally wanted to tie the knot on December 8. “Pero since Immaculate Conception day ‘yun, hindi po available yung Immaculate Conception Church dahil maraming kaganapan sa araw na iyon. Kaya naging end po siya ng taon na ito, which is December 30—the last day, technically, of the year, before New Year’s Eve. Para hindi na po siya paabutin ng 2015.”
Will they be splitting the wedding expenses? “Dingdong will answer that question...” Marian said, while Dingdong whispered, “Ako.”
Marian added, “Isa lang binili ko—sapatos ko!”
