Yam Concepcion shares how she possibly got carried away with her role and her first ever leading man Ejay Falcon.
After joining the Kapamilya network last year via the afternoon series Dugong Buhay
, Yam Concepcion admitted she is happy to get another regular project in the local adaptation of the hit Koreanovela Pure Love
where she plays the role of Kayla. “First time ko
to ever play a kontrabida sa isang teleserye
so bago lahat sa akin yung mga
nuances at saka yung
character ko dito
very uncanny so very mysterious so you’re not giving too much of what you really feel,” she shared.
In Pure Love, Yam co-stars with Yen Santos, Alex Gonzaga, Matt Evans, Arjo Atayde, Joseph Marco, and Arron Villaflor. “Meron kaming workshop with tito Nonie Buencamino. Lahat kami nag-attend nung workshop and we all got briefed about the characters. Also I watched the original Korean telenovela na 49 Days so dun ko tiningnan yung kilos ni Kayla doon which was very boxed, hindi mo talaga makikita kung ano yung ugali niya so very mysterious. Kailangan mo talaga mapanuod lagi yung show para makita mo mag-unfold yung totoo niyang kulay,” she said.
Although she denied being romantically linked to current Pure Love co-star Arjo Atayde (whom she also worked with on Dugong Buhay), Yams said it was actually her onscreen leading man Ejay Falcon whom she eventually fell for while shooting the series. Even though she never admitted it to the public, Yam said it was not her intention to hide their relationship. “Kasi ‘di ba inamin niya sa Kris TV? Kasi kaya ko naman dineny dati kasi sinabi niya sa akin huwag ko daw sasabihin. So ako naman o di sige hindi ko sasabihin. Pero that was just a short-lived romance kasi kumbaga first time ko naman magkaroon ng leading man so baguhan lahat, kumbaga I was so hooked on my character Sandy na parang na-carry over ko siya in real life. And then I realized after everything na, ‘Oh my God it was just stage siguro.’ We dated five months. Naging kami,” she explained.
Although she revealed that she and Ejay do not have any more communication, she said he still managed to greet her during her birthday. Until now, she said she cannot fully explain what happened between them. “Actually hindi ko rin alam kung ano yung reason kung bakit natigil. Ano na lang, I think siya yung tanungin niyo kung bakit. Siya dapat ang mag-explain hindi ako. I think I need an explanation (laughs),” she joked.
Because of that experience, Yam said she has learned her lesson when it comes to dating in showbiz. “Siguro pag non-showbiz yung guy, huwag na. Kumbaga let’s just respect yung privacy niya as a person. Kung showbiz naman ang boyfriend mo puwede mo naman sabihin, wala namang masama dun. It’s better to be honest din naman. Katulad dati sabi ko, ‘Ano ba yan dini-deny ko pa. Dapat hindi naman.’ Dapat just say the truth,” she added.
Currently single, Yam said she is now more discerning when it comes to choosing a guy to date. “Mas mabuti ng choosy! It’s better to be with someone na tama sa iyo kesa naman you’ll be with someone who will just waste your time, na lolokohin ka lang,” she admitted.
