Instead of shying away from the issues, Kathryn Bernardo and Daniel Padilla squarely faced the criticisms thrown towards their upcoming film She's Dating The Gangster (SDTG)
First of which was something about the movie's official poster which many fans are chiding due to Daniel's outfit that resembled that of an albularyo or a herb doctor instead of a gangster.
"Sinasabi nga po nila tapos may nagsabi pa sa akin na umiyak pa daw ako tapos aalis daw ako ng bansa dahil doon," he said in a live interview on The Buzz's Sunday episode pertaining to the viral video of someone who looked like Daniel supposedly crying due to the criticisms.
But the Teen King would rather not be affected by such issues saying that "nakakatawa din na pinipilit nilang magka-issue talaga."
As the movie was originally based from an eponymous book written by Bianca Bernardino, many fans are quite anxious that its story would lose its essence as the movie's plot has been supposedly changed greatly.
This was something that the young star confirmed and reasoned saying that yes, "Malaki [ang difference ng book at movie]. Hindi po natin pinapangit but pinaganda po natin."
He elaborated, "Nung sinulat po ni Bianca itong libro na ito, para sa mga teens po ang libro, para sa mga bata. Kung ilalagay po natin sa sinehan, bakit naman tayo papayag na bata lang ang makakanood? Bakit hindi pwedeng gawin na nating pampamilya na? So ganoon po ang ginawa namin."
Meanwhile, the Teen Queen addressed the purported strain in her relationship with SDTG co-star Sofia Andres, who would portray as their tandem's antagonist in the movie.
"Hindi naman ito ang first time na binigyan kami ng ka-love triangle pero first time with Sofia and si Sofia nakasama ko na siya sa Princess and I, kapatid ko siya and kapag nagkita kami kilalang kilalala ko na talaga siya," Kathryn said.
Instead of looking at Sofia as competition, Kathryn shared that she's actually happy that her former colleague got the role because "alam kong sobrang saya niya kaya masaya rin ako for her kasi matagal siyang naghintay. So 'yung sinasabing may issue, para ma-clear wala talaga. Lahat kami dito sa She's Dating The Gangster para kaming family talaga."
Kathniel's latest film tackles the love story of Athena (Kathryn) and school heartthrob Kenji (Daniel) whose romance started out of a deal.
