Eric Quizon on following Dolphy's last wishes: ‘Zsa Zsa will always be part of our family’

060414-eric_main.jpgAs one of the directors handpicked by ABS-CBN to be at the helm of the premiere episode Ipaglaban Mo which starts airing this month, Eric Quizon admitted it was challenging to do a legal drama anthology as compared to his previous projects. “Ang challenge talaga nito is totoong mga kaso, mga real-life stories ang ginagawa natin so siyempre minsan may pagka-sensistive ang mga topic so kailangan lang talagang maging metikuloso, alagaan ang bawat eksena kasi mahirap magkamali, mahirap mabatikos at mahirap masabihan na mali ang ginawa. So bawat galaw namin, pagka-tungkol sa mga legalities, we always consult with Atty. (Jose) Sison. Maski nag-te-taping kami, we do that just to make sure na tama ang ginagawa namin,” he said.

When it comes to his own family, Eric admitted he is more of a fixer who prefers to settle things before they reach the courts. “When you put yourself in a legal situation and umabot ng mga taon, yung pinagdadaanan ng bawat tao na involved sa kaso mahirap. Ako as much as possible kung maayos natin, ayusin na lang. Kasi ayoko ng gulo, gusto ko ng tahimik na buhay,” he said.

After being appointed administrator of the estate left by his father, legendary comedian Dolphy, Eric said he is lucky he and he 18 other heirs get along well. “I can only fix, I cannot decide. Ang decision talaga kailangan it’s a unanimous decision, hindi puwedeng yung 17 sang-ayon tapos yung dalawa hindi. Because the moment na may isang hindi sumang-ayon, we will have to let it go and move on and come up with a better solution. It’s all good because pamilya ko naman yan eh.

When it comes to his dad's partner Zsa Zsa Padilla, Eric said she will always be considered as family. “Zsa Zsa and my dad were never married so there’s no conjugal (property). Maayos lahat,” he said.

Eric said Dolphy was able to make sure all the provisions in his will were in order before he passed away after a long battle with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). “Oo kasi three years siyang nagkasakit di ba? So four years siyang na-diagnose. So simula nung time na yun kumbaga parang naayos naman yung mga dapat ayusin,” he added.

The Ipaglaban Mo director said Dolphy really made sure Zsa Zsa would also get an inheritance from him. “Definitely meron. Kumbaga parang understood na yun na Zsa Zsa will always be part of our family,” he said.

Although there are only 18 children known to the public that have been sired by Dolphy, Eric said he would not be surprised if others came out to claim that they are part of the family. The talented actor-director said everything can be solved with a DNA test. Wala naming nag-ki-claim, as far as we know it’s all accounted for. (laughs)’ sa amin naman walang problema, if they really are they just have to prove it,” he said.

Watch Ipaglaban Mo starting this Saturday, June 7 after It's Showtime! On ABS-CBN.
