In another landmark dramatic role, Shaina Magdayao plays a woman who chooses to fight for her love in Maalaala Mo Kaya. She plays the role of a teacher from Bohol who falls in love with a simple man (played by Ejay Falcon). “First time naming magkasama ni Ejay so definitely bago yun sa paningin nila and at the same time it's very inspiring since it's a true story ng isang couple sa Bohol. Makikita nila kung paano nila ipinaglaban yung pagmamahal nila, madaming makaka-relate I'm very, very sure. It's not just a love story kasi meron din conflict with my family kasi ayaw siya ng family ko kasi konduktor lang siya tapos kami may kaya. So makikita nila kung paano namin ipaglalaban yung magiging pamilya namin at pagmamahal namin sa isa't isa,” she shared.
Just like her character Bernadette, Shaina said she is also very close to her family especially her older sisters. “I have ates na sobra rin yung support system gaya nung Concha family buong buo silang pamily. Silang magkakapatid are very, very close. But the only difference is yung mga sisters ko kasi they are very supportive when it comes to life and love, dito si Berna hindi siya sinusuportahan. Family sila ng sobrang matatalino and they are all teachers so they are well known pagdating sa Bohol. My sisters are protective also pero when it comes to my choices binibigyan nila ako ng freedom. Pero in the end you will see ang pamilyang Pilipino talaga will always remain intact. Kahit anong mapagdaanan niyo as a family or as an individual, pamilya pa rin kayo,” she explained.
This episode of Maalaala Mo Kaya also marked the first time Shaina and Ejay will be working together on a project even though both are Star Magic artists. “It's very refreshing na makatrabaho si Ejay kasi nga not even in ASAP, wala kaming interaction. Personally meron of course kasi maliit lang naman ang mundo ng showbiz but yung tipong sabihin mong nakapag-guest na kami somewhere so it was really very refreshing. Ang gaan, sinasabi ko nga ito na yung pinakamagaan ko na nagawang Maalaala Mo Kaya kasi usually heavy drama,” she admitted.
Aside from Ejay, their episode also stars Sheryl Cruz and Matet De Leon. “Meron kaming confrontation scene ni Ms. Sheryl Cruz at Ms. Matet De Leon na dapat nilang panuorin. First time ko rin siya makatrabaho. Everyone was very professional. Two taping days yun na magaan katrabaho. I've worked with Ate Matet rin before, magaan din katrabaho. Wala kaming naging problema. Ang pinaka-naging problema namin is inuulan kami kaya na-de-delay pero sobrang bilis ng pacing namin dahil parang everyone was magaan katrabaho. Si direk Eric (Quizon) din was very supportive,” she added.
During their taping, Shaina said they would rest in between takes. “Kapag antok ka na sa taping wala ka ng pipiliing lugar (laughs) pag pagod na pagod ka na. Sa set nga nakikitulog ako. Nung sa MMK habang nag-se-set-up sila andun lang ako sa isang tabi kasi sobrang pagod na,” she recalled.
As one of the most attractive actresses in her generation, Shaina shared how she keeps herself looking good. “I'm under the Baron method sa nutritionist. Mas inaayos ko lang yung pagkain ko ngayon. Eating on time, malinis, not so much on fried food. I detox, I do juicing under his method which is Baron. Ako hindi nagluluto, kumakain lang ako (laughs). Favorite comfort food ko tuyo, kamatis, ganyan. Favorite ko talaga yun no fail yun. Kapag masama pakiramdam ko gusto ko tuyo, tinapa tapos sinangag tapos tomatoes, yun yung favorite ko,” she said.
