PUSH's Top 5 Celebrity Stage Moms: What it takes to be a mother to a star

With Mother’s Day coming up, Push turns the spotlight to the celebrity moms, who, if not for their hard work and sacrifice wouldn’t get the stars we look up into today to their current celebrity status

Mommy Divine Geronimo
While a lot may have been said about Pop Star Princess Sarah Geronimo’s mom, Mommy Divine, she remains unbending in looking after her daughter’s welfare.

Despite all the criticisms given towards her “controlling” and “overprotective” mother, Sarah has been consistent in defending her and claiming that she understands where her mother is coming from.

Mommy Divine, in a magazine feature in 2011, opened up for the first time about her utter devotion for her family and why she does what she does for Sarah.

For Mommy Divine, Sarah is too trusting and naïve to be left alone to tackle the world.

Mommy Pinty Gonzaga

Toni revealed that even at her age, she still has to abide by her mother’s strict curfew whenever she goes out with her boyfriend, director Paul Soriano. Go lang ng go. Okay ang aming relationship as mother-daughter and manager-talent,” she said.

Toni said she is very glad and thankful that her mother is investing her earning really well.

Mommy Min Bernardo
Aside from being a mother to Teen Queen Kathryn Bernardo, Mommy Min Bernardo has become a second mom to her daughter’s perennial love team partner, Teen King Daniel Padilla.

Mommy Min, as she is fondly called on the set, has been seen with her youngest daughter during tapings, pictorials, and other showbiz commitments in and out of town. Apart from being her go-to person, Mommy Min has been there ultimately to guide her daughter and consequently her special someone, Daniel.

Since she’s very vocal in expressing her approval for Daniel, Mommy Min openly shared her support for the mutual understanding status of Kathryn and Daniel. If anything, she says the fact that they claimed to be MU is only a minor detail for her since they are both under her constant guidance anyway.

“Mature na silang dalawa. Sa akin, it doesn't matter kung 18, less than 18, more than 18, as long as lumugar ka.

Kris Aquino
Even if she’s long been known for being a nurturing mother to her boys Josh and Bimby, Queen of All Media Kris Aquino’s stage mother ways really came to fore during her youngest son’s debut into the big screen.

Apart from accompanying her son to the set every so often and making sure that he’s putting his best effort in shooting the Metro Manila Film Festival 2013 entry My Little Bossings, the Kris TV host even went as far as co-producing the Marlon Rivera-helmed flick together with her co-actor Vic Sotto.

Vic in previous report lauded Kris’s motherly care for her kids even on the set and even defended her from critics who are saying that she’s spoiling her kids.

“It's very evident, mula sa suot hanggang sa ano ang kakainin and it just shows how much she loves her children. How good a mother she is. Nakikita ko naman, eh. Sa pagpapalaki niya kay Josh. Kay Bimby.Mababait na bata. Masunurin na mga bata. Mapagmahal na mga bata,” Vic explained.

He added, “She's a very good mother. Some people would say that she has a tendency to spoil her children pero nakita ko kung gaano niya kamahal ang mga anak niya.”

Annabelle Rama
Known for being a colorful character due to her fearlessness and bluntness, Annabelle Rama also serves as a manager for her six children, three of which are active in the business.

While she never confessed to being a stage mother, Annabelle is obviously one with the way she defends and often outwardly gives unsolicited advice to her kids especially for her unica hija Ruffa Gutierrez.

“Kasi nagpaalam ako sa kanya. Late last year, sabi ko, dadalhin ko ang mga bata sa Istanbul,” Ruffa said. She even assured her mother that “nothing would happen” since their kids are already old enough.

However, according to Ruffa her words didn’t appease her mother. “So, naloka siya. The family would like to see the kids and we’re going to go to Istanbul.'
