Lino Cayetano on having Baby Ino: ‘Ibang klaseng saya yung nararamdaman ko’

053114-lino_main.jpgAfter making his return to directing in the upcoming revival of the popular ‘90s legal drama anthology Ipaglaban Mo, Lino Cayetano said he had no problem balancing his time between work and family. The new father, who welcomed his firstborn Ino Philip last May 16 with wife Fille Cainglet, said that his directing did not have any conflict with his duties as a Representative of Taguig.

“I had a long talk with our Business Unit Head Ruel Bayani bago ako magsimula and ang kagandahan sa kongreso, yun schedule namin naka-set na yan sa isang calendar year. Dahil marami sa mga kasamahan namin ay mga kinatawan sa probinsya, talagang it's meant to be na at the end of the week, karamihan umuuwi talaga ng probinsya. So Friday, Saturday, Sunday wala talagang session so yan yung time na I consult with my district. Sa akin, it works and it complements each other as long as it’s a weekly show, huwag lang yung soap opera kasi yun medyo mahirap na gawin,” he shared during the Ipaglaban Mo presscon held last May 30 inside ABS-CBN.

For his episode, Lino shot actors Valerie Concepcion and Bugoy Carino in a slum area in Mandaluyong city. He admitted he was happy to be back behind the camera. “Bilang isang director it's always better to shoot in an environment na malapit sa material mo. For us it helped us very much to shoot in a place na malapit sa totoong buhay ng characters namin,” he said.

The 35-year-old director said that even though he was born into a family of lawyers, he was never pressured to become one. So I think naka-impluwensiya sa akin yun kasi teenager ako nun nung ipalabas itong Ipaglaban Mo and nakita ko yung power of mass media. Kaya ako napunta dun. That's why nung sinabi ko na gusto ko mag-Masscomm sa UP, sinuportahan niya ako,” he recalled.
Now that he is a parent, Lino could not hide his happiness during the presscon. “I feel very, very happy. Hindi ko nag malagay sa salita yung feeling basta I'm very happy. Everyday ibang klaseng saya yung nararamdaman ko pag nakikita ko so I'm very happy,” he said.

His wife, former Ateneo volleyball player Fille has also been a good partner to him ever since they got married last December. “Very very supportive siya. When I work, when I read my script or when I have work in congress, magkatabi kami. Minsan I have to remind her nga na mas pagod siya sa akin so dapat siya yung inaalagaan ko but yun napaka-laking blessing niya,” he added.

The talented director also shared the reason for naming their son Ino Philip instead of making him Lino Cayetano Jr. “Gusto kasi ng wife ko yung Ino, ako naman gusto ko Philip tapos naisip namin baka kasi gusto ko yun kasi it sounds like her name, Fille kasi siya tapos Philip yung gusto ko. Tapos siya gusto niya siguro sounds like Lino kasi nga mahal na mahal namin yung isa't isa siguro yun yung rason nun. Pinagsama namin kaya naging Ino Philip kasi pag binaliktad mo parang Filipino (laughs). Mas maganda yung Ino Philip,” he says.

When asked about how he felt about his siblings Senator Peter Alan and Pia being dragged into the pork barrel scam issue, Lino said there was never any need for their family to act defensive because they never had anything to hide. Simple lang yung solusyon,” he explained.

Ipaglaban Mo starts airing on June 7, Saturday after It's Showtime on ABS-CBN. For more updates, follow @IpaglabanMo2 on Twitter.
