KZ Tandingan says Yeng Constantino’s engagement pressured her to change ‘NBSB’ status
While she’s happy about Pop Rock Princess Yeng Constantino’s engagement to boyfriend Yan Asuncion almost two months ago, singer KZ Tandingan confessed that the event somehow pressured her into finding her “The One
The self-confessed “NBSB” or No Boyfriend Since Birth singer admitted this in an exclusive interview with PUSH during the pocket press conference of her upcoming concert with Markki Stroem titled Jazzified on May 16 at the Music Museum.
“Sabi ko nga sa kanya nung nag GGV (Gandang Gabi Vice) kami ng magkasabay… Kasi nga 23 si Ate Yeng nung nagkaroon siya ng first boyfriend tapos 22 ako then wala pa akong boyfriend, NBSB rin ako. Sabi ko noon ‘Nako Ate Yeng hindi ako nape-pressure talaga na magka-boyfriend kasi nandyan ka,” she related that she saw the Pop Rock Princess as an inspiration because she didn’t rush things just to get into a relationship.
“Alam ko naman na hindi ka nagmadali tapos bigla ko na lang nakita sa Instagram niya, ‘I said yes’ parang ganon. Tapos nag-usap kami pagka-Sunday na ‘yun sa prod nila sa ASAP tapos sabi ko ‘Ate Yeng, ano ka ba? Hindi nga ako nagmamadaling magka-boyfriend kasi nga inspirasyon kita pagdating sa ganyan tapos ngayon malaman laman ko engaged kana. Nako mag-iiwas iwas na ako sa barkada niyo!’” she revealed what she blurted to the singer after learning about the engagement.
Confessing that she was “super shocked” over the engagement, KZ revealed that while she can’t really foresee what fate has in store for her, she prefers not to rush into falling in love. “I mean nothing is impossible pero kung tatanungin niyo ako ngayon, hindi. Hindi pa. Eventually dadating tayo dun. Ako gusto ko rin naming magkapamilya pero kasi ngayon priority ko, family, my career and ayun gusto ko na mas mag-grow pa ang career ko,” the first X Factor of the Philippines winner reasoned.
She may have not had a boyfriend yet, but KZ already has a crystal clear idea of what it takes to be in a relationship. “Mahirap kasi eh. Hindi naman sa ano, pero when you’re committing to a relationship, you’re putting that person higher in your hierarchy of priorities so kahit na hindi niya hingin sa ’yo, alam mo na responsibility mo sa kanya na bigyan siya ng time, ng attention, bigyan siya ng effort. And that’s going to be unfair for the other person naman kapag hindi mo mabigay sa kanya ‘yun, kahit na sasabihin niyang, ‘Naiintindihan ko,’ pero ikaw diba nag-commit ka pa kung hindi mo naman kayang panindigan,” KZ explained. She even quoted Grammy award-winning singer-songwriter John Legend. “Hindi ako in a hurry. Sabi nga ni John Legend ‘Let’s take it slow.’”
So being single is a conscious effort on her part? “Kung dadating kasi dadating. Pwede ngayon agad magkaroon ako pero pwede mo naman kasing isipin ‘yung mga priorities mo. Pero kung plano ng Diyos na this is the right time for you to experience having someone to take care of you, aside from your family, ayun open naman ako siguro pero hindi priority. Hindi naghahanap. Hindi atat. Kung dadating, dadating,” she underscored.
Before she could be written off as completely loveless, KZ shared that she is actually exclusively-dating a non-showbiz guy right now. Does he get jealous whenever she gets paired with other male artists like Markki for instance? “Hindi, hindi naman. Kilala niya naman ako. Alam niya naman na I’m not that type of girl na ganon ang habol ko sa isang lalaki. And once na I’m in a commitment, I’m in a commitment. Alam niya lang [na ganon ang idea ko], pero hindi pa kami committed. Alam niya naman kasi na hindi ko priority. Ngayon we enjoy each other’s company so ayun andoon pa lang kami,” KZ clarified.
She continued, “Di ba nga NBSB ako so ayun he understands the situation na I’m not in a hurry to be in a relationship and I’m enjoying my life being a single lady and I’m busy with my career so ayun.”
The guy whom KZ opted not to name she says has been her friend for a while now. “Tapos ayun it grew into something special. Parang closer friends ganon.”
