More than a year after working on his last show on the Kapamilya network before entering politics, Lino Cayeto goes back to directing in the upcoming show Ipaglaban Mo which starts airing this June. The Taguig city congressman admitted he missed working behind the camera. “Siyempre. Napakasarap ng pakiramdam because it's after 14 months finally I'm here back directing at napakagandang opportunidad yung nabigay sa akin because it's such a special show and ngayon bilang mangbabatas naging parte ako ng isang show at nabigyan ng opportunidad na mag-direct ng isang show tungkol sa batas. Pero sa akin, parang I couldn't have asked for a better way to come back into my first love, into directing than sa tulad ng isang show like Ipaglaban Mo,” he said.
Lino said that he is hoping to continue the legacy of his father when it comes to helping people through the show and being able to direct more in the coming months. “Yes I think one year ako nag-focus purely on my new job sa kongreso and ngayon medyo nakabisado ko na ng kaunti yung aking schedule. Of course, I also got married so that one year it allowed me to adjust. Ngayon I'm excited na I got this opportunity to direct Ipaglaban Mo and hopefully my time allows me na to direct a few episodes. So hopefully once or twice every few months. I think isang napakalaking institution na si Atty. (Jose) Sison (of the original Ipaglaban Mo series) and around that time napakadaming shows tungkol sa batas at yung ama ko rin naging malaking bahagi ng buhay niya. In fact nag-intern din ako sa show when I was a student.
After a whirlwind romance and an intimate wedding last December with former Ateneo volleyball player Fille Cainglet, Lino said he has adjusted well to married life. “I'm happy, very happy. In fact hindi lang kahit sa trabaho ko ngayon. Siyempre iba na yung tayong mga industriya, yung personal nating buhay siyempre nakakaapeto yan sa trabaho natin at lalo na kami dito sa mga artista, mga director, mga manunulat, kung sino ka, nagiging napakalaking parte ng buhay mo at saka paano mo ginagawa yung trabaho mo. So even now I'm not just directing from a new pair of eyes, bilang isa na akong congressman, isang mambabatas but also because I'm now a married man,” he shared.
With his Ipaglaban Mo episode starring Valerie Concepcion and Bugoy Carino, Lino said the episode hits close to home in more ways than one. “So tulad ng kuwentong ito, it's about a mother and her son and now that I'm starting my family di ba iba rin yung atake kasi iba rin yung nakikita kong detalye na hindi ko nakikita siguro nung single pa ako,” he added.
The father-to-be said he is expecting his first child later this year. “I'm very excited. Mabuti [si Fille]. She's as healthy and as normal as can be. Ngayon we're expecting so we're pregnant. Hopefully in a few months. She's very excited na I'm back to directing kasi nung nakilala niya ako yun yung time na hindi ako nag-di-direct eh. She hasn't seen me direct, she hasn't visited me (on the set). Ngayon excited siya, hindi ko lang alam kung makakabisita siya ngayon but she's very excited. Very supportive siya,” he admitted.
Lino said they already know the gender of the baby, but will reveal more details at a later time. “Oo alam na namin so soon we'll announce it but we're very excited,” he said.
Even after only a few months of dating, Lino said he already knew he was with the love of his life which is why he did not hesitate to tie the knot after just a month-long engagement. “We had a honeymoon wedding, very small wedding pero ginawa namin out of town with family, parang family only so in that way na-enjoy rin namin yun. It was just a few months after Yolanda so we wanted a simple wedding, but also kahit papaano since it's a smaller wedding we were able to do it out of town so parang all in one na the honeymoon and all,” he recalled.
The Ipaglaban Mo director said he hopes that Kapamilya viewers will watch out for his episode which will air early next month. “It's a new show from ABS-CBN. It's a special show dahil hindi lang siya importante dahil tungkol siya sa tunay na mga buhay ng tao, pero dahil nakapaloob sa kanya yung mga bagay na siguro kailangan natin malaman din tungkol sa batas sa isang pamamaraan na minsan entertaining, minsan dramatic, minsan nakakatawa, but it's such a special show and I'm so excited to be part of it,” he said.
