The 18-year-old actor said he looks forward to portraying a different kind of role from his usual boy-next-door characters which he also portrayed in Growing Up two years ago with co-stars Kathryn Bernardo, Julia Montes, and Daniel Padilla. In Mirabella, he plays bad boy Dave who along with his friends tries to make life difficult for Mira (played by Julia Barretto). “It's going to be a good challenge. Kung mainis man sa akin ang mga tao, I think that's a good sign kasi ibig sabihin nun effective yung acting ko,” he said.
Even though he admitted he took a showbiz break after doing a regular show, Diego said it was a blessing in disguise because it allowed him to focus on his studies full-time. Now, he is ready to act again and is very positive for coming projects as well. “2014 has been amazing! I love this year since the very start it's been very good to me so I'm very happy,” he said.
When it comes to his love life, Diego has always been vocal about how attractive he finds Mirabella star Julia, but now has set his sights on a new beauty who is also relatively new to the industry. “Liza Soberano is my ideal girl, she's very sweet. Kinakausap ko kasi siya sa workshop, sobrang sweet ni Liza. She's very pretty. You can't find a guy who'll say she's not pretty. She's very, very pretty. She's beautiful inside and out. Like Julia (Barretto) also pero ewan ko, iba yung dating ni Liza para sa akin,” he admitted.
Liza Soberano was part of the initial cast of Mirabella, but was later replaced because of another project she was involved with. Diego said he is not planning to court Liza (who just graduated from high school this week), but is happy to be able to just admire her for now.
