While she didn’t have the most blissful relationship with her ex-husband Turkish businessman Yilmaz Bektas since they parted ways in 2007, Ruffa Gutierrez said she still wants him to see their two children, Lorin and Venice.
Push.com.ph interviewed the beauty queen-actress at the press conference of their upcoming reality show titled It Takes Gutz to be a Gutierrez on E! Channel which will feature her, her parents Annabelle Rama and Eddie Gutierrez, and her twin brothers Richard and Raymond’s lives behind the camera. Ruffa shared her plans to fly to Turkey soon.
“Ayaw niyang pumunta sa Pilipinas, gusto niya ako ang pumunta sa Turkey. So baka matuloy na ‘yun like I said this time kasi I’m sure naman matatakot naman ‘yun kung may binabalak siyang hindi maganda kasi ikukwento ko na sa inyong lahat tapos isusulat niyo,” she laughingly told the press after the press conference.
The couple announced their separation in 2007 with Ruffa claiming that she was physically abused by Yilmaz during their seven-year marriage.
“Actually kami ni Yilmaz ongoing naman eh. Our relationship has always been a struggle. There are good days, there are bad days. Ngayon naman hindi kami nag-uusap so malay mo dahil sa mga bata mag-usap kami,” she enthused.
It was her talent manager and mother Annabelle who actually brought up Ruffa’s plans during the press conference. “Kasi nagpaalam ako sa kanya. Late last year, sabi ko, dadalhin ko ang mga bata sa Istanbul,” Ruffa shared during the forum.
According to her, she assured Annabelle that everything’s going to be okay since the kids are a little older and that, “I don’t think anything would happen.
“So, naloka siya. Ever since na nagpaalam ako sa kanya, sabi ko, 'Ma, ayos na kami ni Yilmaz. The family would like to see the kids and we’re going to go to Istanbul.' Naloka na naman siya. Parang hindi raw siya makatulog ng ten days. Hindi niya sinasabi sa akin, pero ang mga dialogues niya, 'Sige, 'day, kung gusto mong magpakatay, pumunta ka ro'n!'” she related.
Despite her mother’s aversion towards her plan, Ruffa underscored that she won’t leave for Turkey without letting her know. “Hindi pa kami nagkikita ni Yilmaz simula noong huli siyang pumunta sa Pilipinas, which was 2008. Puro pictures na lang. So, siyempre naman, we communicate through Skype and e-mail,” the 40-year-old actress said.
To be assured of her daughter’s and granddaughters’ protection, Annabelle even suggested to Ruffa during the forum that she bring the entire crew of their upcoming show.
Will this be possible? “Kung seryoso talaga, alam nyo kasi, I won’t naman plan na, 'Let’s go, punta tayo ng Istanbul to shoot It Takes Gutz To Be A Gutierrez,' 'no? You know, if it happens, since Yilmaz has been asking me to please bring the kids to Istanbul, this would be the perfect place,” Ruffa said.
She continued, “Siyempre, takot na akong pumuntang mag-isa. Maganda na ang aking balat. Ayoko namang masyombag-syombag ulit. So, this is like the perfect opportunity kaya dapat, pumayag na rin siya.”
As a single mother, Ruffa confessed that her two children do miss their father. “Siyempre naman, nami-miss naman nila ang daddy nila, pero yung pagka-miss nila sa daddy nila, usually on occasions, like 'pag Pasko, 'pag birthday,” she said.
However, she reiterated that, “But I’d like to believe naman that they are showered with love. My family showers them with love.”
It Takes Gutz to be Gutierrez will run for six episodes and will start airing this coming May on E! Channel. You can also read about Ruffa and her daughters in the April issue of Working Mom Magazine.
