Francis Magalona’s fifth death anniversary to be marked with a fun run

031614_FrancisM_main.jpgInstead of commemorating the late Master Rapper Francis Magalona’s death anniversary on March 6, the Magalona family has decided to mark it with a fun run on March 30. It was the late musician’s son Elmo Magalona who revealed the plan during an interview on the sidelines of Garage’s fifth Young Talents’ Party at the Skye Lounge in Taguig.

"Ending ng March, magkakaroon kami ng fun run. It's going to be handled by FMCC (Francis M. Clothing Company)," Elmo said. According to Elmo, the activity will be fully supported by their family. "I'll be participating, we (the family) are going to be participating,” he said.

However, the young Magalona added that he might not be able to join the runners. “I'm not sure if I'm going to run. Baka hindi ako ano eh prepared. Siguro, I'll just be there to support everyone. I'm hoping na maraming mag-join," Elmo explained.

How did the idea of a fun run came about? "Parang it's an idea na kinombine with Bearwin Meilly. Si Bearwin ata, he is the one who talked to us and he wanted to fix this day, na we're going to do this run," said the young actor-singer referring to the comedian.

The run called “Remembering FrancisM: Isang Umaga, Isang Takbo, Isang Alaala” is scheduled on March 30 at the Quirino Grandstand in Manila. Race categories are 3K, 5K, 10K and 16K. The prizes for the winners include the Francis Magalona dog tag and a Francis Magalona Run 2014 Finisher Shirt.

A portion of the profits is aimed to support the projects of the Francis Magalona Foundation.

Francis Magalona was 44 years old when he succumbed to complications resulting from acute myeloid leukemia in 2009.
