Jobert claims that he wouldn't have spoken out about the controversy if Joel Torre took home the Best Actor trophy
Speaking at length for the first time since his Facebook post, showbiz columnist Jobert Sucaldito didn’t even bat an eyelash when he slammed the recently-released statement by the Philippine Movie Press Club (PMPC)
; refuting his allegations of vote buying.
In an interview with the radio personality at the sidelines of BUM Equipment’s introduction of their newest brand ambassadors namely Nash Aguas, Jane Oineza, Diego Loyzaga and Ella Cruz held on March 12 that statement was a pure lie.
“Eto nga nakakatawa nung nabasa ko ang statement nila sabi ko ‘Habang siguro sinusulat nila ang kanilang official statements nila, for sure lahat ng balahibo nila pati sa kili-kili nila ay nagtayuan’ because they know they’re composing a lie. Kaya sabi ko isa lang ang katapat ko na sagot ko dyan, isang malutong na halakhak,” he said.
With him spewing accusations and revealing a supposed flaw in the PMPC Star Awards for Movies’ awarding system, many presuppose that this controversy might end up in court, something which Jobert claims to be what he actually hopes to happen.
“I challenge them to sue me para maglabasan lahat. Para doon na silang tuluyan na mawasak. ‘Yun ang gusto ko nga eh. I even expected na they will go that far. Sabi ko ‘pag ginawa nila ‘yan wasak talaga sila. Sisiguraduhin ko ‘yan dahil hawak ko ang ebidensya ko,” he claimed.
Hours after the PMPC Star Awards for Movies awarding ceremony on March 9, Jobert took to his Facebook account to lament the failed result of his lobbying for his ward ER Ejercito for the movie Boy Golden: Shoot to Kill.
Lobbying in this case, for purposes of definition, according to Jobert is when you talk to persons to get them to vote for your ward for a fee.
“Kasi matagal ng kalakaran ‘yan eh so nasayo nalang kung kakagatin mo oh hindi kasi kumbaga may price tag na ‘yan eh. Siyempre I won’t say the amount pero kailangang ipangutang ko pa ‘yun eh,” he explained.
While many might scoff at the idea of lobbying, Jobert claims that he only did it
“to protect a more rightful winner” which according to his post should’ve been On The Job star Joel Torre but unfortunately failed to win because he supposedly couldn’t pay the voting members.
Furthermore, he added that for him it is “legal” because he’s an outsider, meaning he’s not part nor a member of the PMPC. Unlike showbiz reporter Francis Simeon, who according to him, is a voting member and the person who actually lobbied for Best Actor winner Vice Ganda.
“Ay parang wala silang delicadeza. He voted for Vice of course kasi doon siya eh. Dapat pina-abstain nila. At tsaka itong si Roldan [Castro] at Mel [Navarro], dapat mag-abstain rin sila dahil sila ang mga officers ng panel or if not ipakita nila ‘yung talagang lumabas,” said Jobert.
He even challenges the PMPC to show the ballots “pero kapag binuksan ang sabi ng ilang PMPC members na nakakausap ko lately, sabi nila ‘Dapat walang bura at kapag may bura dapat may initials namin.’”
Unfortunately, Jobert says that the ballots can only be opened by virtue of a court order.
“Sabi ko ‘Oh eh di mag-court order kayo!’ Basta ako I said my piece I have 22 commitments, I lost the game, okay lang ‘yon,” Jobert enthused.
Contrary to popular belief, the Laguna governor’s publicist clarified that he’s revelation of the long-standing controversy isn’t sour graping.
“Hindi pwedeng sour-graping you know why? Kasi unang-una, I don’t really believe in both of them eh. In ER, kung sino ang ni-lobby ko and Vice. The rightful winner is Joel Torre. Hindi rin ako pwedeng mag-sourgrape kasi si ER nakadalawang-beses ng nanalo sa Best Actor consecutive. Ka-swapangan naman kung gusto pa naming na amin nalang lahat,” he elaborated.
He continued, “Kaya lang dahil si Joel Torre eh hindi nila papanaluhin eh between Vice naman and ER, kay ER nako. Kasi bonus lang naman ‘yan eh. Kung first year siguro namin ito baka pwede pang isiping ganon eh [sourgraping].”
In fact, Jobert firmly said that he wouldn’t have aired his sentiment if Joel won the trophy. He says that even ER thought that the Honesto star would be the runaway winner.
“‘Pero pinaalala ko lang sayo ER ah, hindi ikaw ang magaling dito. Hindi si Vice. Si Joel Torre.’ Tumawa nga siya eh, sabi niya ‘Alam mo Kuya akala ko nga kagabi ang tatawagin si Joel Torre eh. Naka-ready nga ako eh kasi papalakpakan talaga namin siya eh.’ Sabi ko ‘Oo, hindi ikaw, hindi si Vice si Joel Torre dito ang pinakamagaling. ‘Wag kayong mag-ilusyon,’” the Mismo host recalled the conversation he had with ER after the controversy broke out.
He likewise took the opportunity to clarify that the actor-politician had nothing to do with his decision to lobby and that he didn’t even know that he had to borrow money in order to pay for the votes of some of the members.
“Ay dyusko, kahit halughugin mo pa ang opisina wala siyang kinalaman. Pera ko ‘to. And ubos na ang pera ko kaya bigyan niyo ako,” Jobert joked.
Meanwhile, with his revelation of what he did to get ER to win, it has raised the question as to the Best Actress win of his Boy Golden leading lady KC Concepcion was also a by-product of his lobbying.
“Ni-lobby ko ‘yan! Sabi ko bakit? Kasi pelikula ko ‘yun eh,” he confessed adding that, “Dapat siya [KC] nga ang nanalo sa Metro Manila Film Festival eh. Kaya ito parinig ko na nga rin ito sa Metro Manila Film Festival tsaka sa ibang festivals eh except for a few na alam nating disente. Pero sa mga tumatrabaho ng ganyan, sa mga nagpapabili at nagpapagoyo, this is all for you.”
Amid all this, Jobert says he’s not playing hero hence the expose. If anything he thinks that everyone’s a victim or the rotten system behind the award-giving body.
“Nagbubukas ito ng mas malaki pang aral sa atin sa industry. Sa ngayon medyo masakit pa ‘yan sa lahat ng involved pero eventually ma-e-enjoy natin ito eh. We will reap the fruits thing in the end eh kasi industry problem yan eh. It’s sickening, sobra na ‘yan, matagal na ‘yan eh. Matagal na ‘yan, hindi ko na alam kung ilang dekada na ‘yan,” Jobert said.
What is his message to the members of the PMPC?
“Wala, wala akong mensahe sa kanila. Bakit ako mag-me-mensahe sa kanila eh mali nga ‘yung statement nila eh,” he calmly said.
