Piolo Pascual has an agreement with son Iñigo that he will only make appearances on TV when he turns 18.
Piolo Pascual doesn't want his son Iñigo to join show business full time for the time being. He has, however, allowed Iñigo to have his first acting stint for a good reason.
Iñigo is one of the lead stars of the upcoming film Relaks, It's Just Pag-ibig by Spring Films, Piolo's movie production outfit together with the film’s director Bb. Joyce Bernal, and some other partners. The younger Pascual is set to star together with Senator Jinggoy Estrada's son Julian Estrada and newbie actress Sofia Andres.
In a recent interview, Piolo said that Iñigo's participation in the film had certain conditions. “Pinayagan ko lang kasi he was here during summer last year. I only accepted the part for him just as along as there is no promo, no on-cam na promo,” he revealed about the “compromise” that they were able to arrive at as father and son. He added, "Kasi gusto talaga niya eh.”
According to the Starting Over Again actor, another reason that got him to say “yes” to Iñigo doing a movie was the fact that it was an academic requirement. "He's getting into Theater Arts, so kailangan niya ng credit points to get scholarship,” he said.
The actor already had a previous agreement with his son. “Kaya ayoko pumayag. Usapan naman namin 'pag 18 na siya. Eh sixteen pa lang siya, so ganyan lang muna," Piolo explained.
Did he drop by the film’s set? "I went there once or twice. He was getting the hang of it. Okay naman siya, pero saka na," he quipped.
While he didn’t reveal the film’s release date, Piolo said he has already viewed the movie. "Maganda naman, it's a nice movie. Of course, he has a lot to learn,” he assessed.
Even Star Magic’s Johnny Manahan saw his son’s film. Piolo said, "Sabi nga ni Mr. M, he saw the teaser, meron daw [potential]. Pero hintay muna.”
He further clarified that he was “worse during my first" film and that between the two of them, “Mas pogi ‘yung anak ko."
Piolo has explained in previous reports why he has mixed feelings about his son joining showbiz. "It's a cruel job.” He explained: "I enjoy showbiz, but it has its trade offs. Minsan may mga bagay na hindi mo kayang tanggapin and hindi mo kayang sikmurahin kasi ganun talaga eh. Nevertheless, ganun ‘yung industriya natin."
