Julia Barretto on turning 17: “I feel older and more mature”

031114-Juliab_main.jpgMirabella star Julia Barretto started her birthday celebration early with a production number on ASAP last March 9 as well as a surprise birthday salubong thrown by her mom Marjorie at the roof deck of Skye Bar in Bonifacio Global City. The party was well-attended by Julia’s friends from showbiz and school. Although the birthday girl arrived a little before 10 pm, her mom and siblings Dani, Leon, and Claudia were already at the venue as early as 8 pm preparing for the party. Other early birds included Julia’s friends like Diego Loyzaga and Makisig Morales, who were busy rehearsing for a dance number when PUSH arrived.

Also present were Nadia Montenegro, Juliana Gomez (daughter of Richard and Lucy Torres-Gomez), Julia’s high school classmates and her batchmates from Star Magic Circle which include Khalil Ramos, Liza Soberano, Michelle Vito, Alex Diaz, and Jane Oineza. Julia’s other celebrity friends Paul Salas, Jairus Aquino, and Ella Cruz also came to support the birthday girl.

Julia arrived wearing a midriff-baring blouse and skirt styled by Liz Uy. She admitted she was overwhelmed by the turnout. “Siyempre I’m very happy kasi not only do I want to celebrate my birthday, but parang it’s like my thanksgiving na rin. It’s been such a good year so I’m so happy that I have my family and friends with me here right now. I’m overwhelmed, halata ba? (laughs). Parang nag-si-sink in pa lang,” she shared.

Now that she’s 17, Julia said she is not sure how she feels with so many things going on around her. “I don’t know kasi nasa gitna siya ng sweet 16 and then 18 eh, siguro I feel older and more mature pero wala pa akong na-fi-feel na anything special. Ang birthday wish ko since Mirabella lalabas na this month, I’m really praying na maging successful ito na tumagal ito at tutukan ito at sana mataas ang ratings kasi ang ganda talaga ng story, sana abangan nila,” she admitted.

The pretty mestiza said she has not decided yet on what gift she wants to give herself. “Wala pa eh, hindi ko pa alam gusto ko eh (laughs),” she added.

Although she said she is not yet allowed to have a boyfriend, Julia admitted that she is aware that some guys are vocal about having a crush on her. But the Mirabella star downplayed the attention. “Naku, sipsip lang yun kasi birthday ko (laughs). Pero nakaka-flatter siyempre and I’m very close to those guys. They’re very nice guys,” she said.
