With the controversy involving actor-host Vhong Navarro versus businessman Cedric Lee and accuser Deniece Cornejo hogging the headlines, some familiar names have been mentioned for their rumored involvement with the latter.
In an interview after the Grand Comedy Presscon held at the Dolphy Theater last February 6, John Lloyd Cruz was asked about his opinion on the matter. “Tumatakbo na ‘yung kaso nila and I think it’s best na ‘wag na lang ako magbigay ng kahit na ano kasi wala na akong dapat pang sabihin diyan,” he said.
The star of ABS-CBN’s newest top-rating sitcom Home Sweetie Home though confessed that he was shocked about being dragged into the incident that led to Vhong being mauled at a condo unit in Taguig by Cedric and other men allegedly for forcing himself on Deniece.
“Kasi sensitibong kaso ‘yan para sa kaibigan ko and hindi madali ‘yung pinagdadaanan ng kaso, ‘yung pinagdadaanan niya. Ako naman hindi naman ako nagkulang ng pagsabi sa kanya na ‘ako andito ako, kami na mga kabigan niya,’” John Lloyd revealed. John Lloyd and Vhong are both part of the group Kanto boys (along with Luis Manzano and Billy Crawford).
But for the record, the acclaimed actor revealed that he does know Cedric personally “Kasi nga when I was still with Shaina [Magdayao] parang inabutan ko pa ‘yung relasyon nila ni Vina [Morales]. I don’t know kung ganon kalinaw ‘yun ah pero nakikita ko siya sa family gatherings nila, parang on a regular basis nakikita ko siya.”
Lloydie was referring to his failed relationship with Shaina, the sister of Vina who was once romantically involved with Cedric and is the father of her daughter Ceana.
On Thursday, February 6, Vhong was discharged from the hospital and went to the Department of Justice to submit his affidavit against Cedric and Deniece.
John Lloyd is happy that the It’s Showtime host has partially recovered from the beating. “Regular kaming nakakapagusap. Kanina magka-text kami kanina. Masayang masaya ako na nakauwi na siya,” he said.
John Lloyd was asked how he’d also pursue a case against his attackers if he were put in the same situation. “Ay oo naman kasi kahit sinong tao na nasa tama. I mean hindi naman kinakaila ng kaibigan ko na nagkamali siya sa kanyang girlfriend. ‘Di naman siya nagmamalinis. Pero hindi naman tama ‘yung sinapit niya. So siya ang nakakaalam, alam kong nagsasabi ng totoo ‘yung kaibigan ko,” John Lloyd underscored.
If anything, the actor said he in awe of the courage being shown by Vhong in seeking justice for his ordeal. “Humahanga ako na pinanindigan niya. Minsan mahirap manindigan eh lalo na kapag may kapalit. Kaya humahanga ako,” he explained.
Apart from JLC, Jake Cuenca was also rumored to have had an encounter with Cedric Lee. The Ikaw Lamang star, however, denied having any involvement with Cedric. "Hindi ko siya kilala. I've never even heard of his name until lumabas nga 'yung issue sa kanila ni Vhong. I didn't even know his name,” Jake said even adding that, “So literally, hindi ko alam kung saan nanggagaling na naman 'yung sinama ako doon. Pero never ako nabiktima. And even in that case, I never met the guy, ever,” he said in an interview at the Kapamilya trade launch.
