Get to know That's My Tomboy winner Epey Herher
020714-Herher_Main.jpgDuring the grand finals ofThat’s My Tomboy on It’s Showtime last Saturday, February 1, April Mariz Epey Herher of Mindoro became the first ever winner of the lesbian talent search after besting 38 other contestants. The 25-year-old singer was heavily praised by the judges for her inspiring speech and positivity.

Herher, who has been working as an online English tutor to Koreans for the past few years, admitted she hardly got any sleep the night before the show. Oh my God. Ayun (laughs). Sobrang sarap sa pakiramdam na ako yung kauna-unahang That’s My Tomboy grand winner.

Herher shared that her main reason for joining the show was because she knew it was what her best friend Pinky (who passed away after a road accident on C5) would have wanted her to do. The two grew up together in their hometown in Lubang, Mindoro where Pinky is now buried.

Herher admitted that when she first auditioned, she dedicated her song to her “guardian angel.”

Aside from It’s Showtime, Herher admitted she also tried her luck auditioning for The Voice of the Philippines last year. Nag-audition ako saThe Voice, first screening lang ako nakapasok. May promise kasi ako sa best friend ko siPinky, gusto niya kasi lagi akong kumakanta. So nung hindi ako nakapasok sa The Voice, tapos nag-audition ako sa That’s My Tomboy nung nalaman ko na may segment. Sabi ko kay Pinky baka para ako dito, baka hindi ako para sa The Voice, para ako sa Tomboys of the Philippines (laughs),” she joked.

One of Herher’s dreams is to be able to perform her original songs in public someday.“Siguro mas ipu-pursue ko yung dream namin ni Pinky na gusto ko sana mapagbigyan pa ng chance magkaroon ng sariling album.

The aspiring singer admits she is excited to go back to Occidental Mindoro to thank her hometown for supporting her and to visit the grave of her best friend. She posted on her Facebook fan page last February 3, “Uuwi po kami bukas sa Lubang. Pinky, I have something for you. Yohohohohohoho. ?”
