A week after news broke out about the vicious attack on her good friend Vhong Navarro, Toni Gonzaga admitted that she was upset she could not be there right away to see how he was doing. The actress recently came back from her US vacation earlier this month and immediately got busy finishing shooting her Star Cinema Valentine’s day offering Starting Over Again as well as working on ASAP’s Dubai show. She finally got the chance to visit her former Wazzup Wazzup co-host in the hospital last January 30.
Toni also admitted that she was relieved to see Vhong getting better and did not need to tell him how much she loves him as a friend. Pag nagkita kami parang… of course it was a bad situation, yung scenario, but when I saw him I was just… na-miss ko yung kaibigan ko. It was unfortunate na ganun yung incident na dinatnan ko,” she shared.
The 30-year-old singer-actress also admitted that she couldn’t help but be affected at the state of her friend, who is scheduled to undergo reconstructive surgery. Toni said she would rather that people remain positive for Vhong’s sake. “Right now he doesn’t need anymore na pagpapabigat pa ako. Siyempre umiyak ako, babae ako lumambot yung puso ko nung makita ko sitwasyon niya. Pero ayoko nang umiyak sa harap niya kasi mag-iiyakan pa kami, hindi na maganda yung nangyari so I think what he really needs is encouragement, [what] he needs is prayer, he needs to know na nandito yung mga kaibigan niya,” she added.
The Starting Over Again star said Vhong still showed her how positive he was even after everything that has happened. “Nag-jo-joke pa rin siya. Parang hindi naman mawawala kay Vhong yun. Pero of course mararamdaman mo yung may dinadala. Siyempre may kaso,” she said.
But the talented performer said she is saddened by the news that Vhong and his family have been receiving death threats because of his move to file cases against those who attacked him. Siguro sa susunod na pagkakataong ganun prayers ang kailangan ni Vhong at saka pampalakas ng loob,” she said.
