Instead of feeling anxious about his daughter’s upcoming titular project Mirabella, actor Dennis Padilla admitted he is actually excited that Julia Barretto’s acting chops will finally be put to the test.
“Actually I want to see her acting there kasi mahirap, puyat tsaka pagod, may prosthetics. Eh ako nung araw pa lang, nung bata pa ako ayokong-ayoko kapag nagpo-prosthetics sa pelikula, ang hirap. Kaya dito ko makikita ‘yung patience ni Julia, ‘yung acting ni Julia in spite of the hardship behind the shooting that teleserye,” he related during an exclusive interview with Push.com.ph during Bride for Rent’s thanksgiving party held in ABS-CBN.
According to him, the fact that his daughter hails from two showbiz families—the Padillas and the Barrettos—makes Julia a “natural” actress.
But Dennis is most proud of the fact that his daughter makes it a point to continue her studies despite being in showbiz. “Despite being busy, nakakapag-school pa rin siya mga twice a week. Sabi ko nga sa kanya basta kaya mong tapusin ‘yung pag-aaral mo kahit medyo matagalan, importante na makatapos ka rin despite of your popularity,” Dennis said.
The 16-year-old Kapamilya teen star is a fourth year high school student at St. Paul, Pasig. According to Dennis, Julia makes it a point to juggle her work and her studies by “some of the work inuuwi niya pa tapos may rehearsal pa ‘yan tapos meron pa siyang workshop. Kaya nga minsan kunwari nag-text ako today, makaka-textback yan bukas pa. Basta ang sabi ko lang sa kanya pagbutihan niya because ‘You are so blessed and I’m sure naman na magiging successful. And I think Julia Barretto will be the next superstar.’”
Even before the series is set to air next month, intrigues have already plagued Julia and Enrique Gil’s first team up. Bashers of their onscreen tandem have sprouted allegedly due to Enrique’s previous onscreen partnership with Julia Montes.
What advice does he give his daughter about handling bashers? “Sabi ko pabayaan niya na lang basta hanapbuhay lang. Isipin mo it’s work and doon sa mga fans, let’s enjoy life at ‘wag niyo ng bigyan ng kulay ang ganon dahil the more the merrier. Kung mas maraming masaya eh dim as okay. Kailangan maging masaya both sides,” Dennis revealed.
As someone who has also endured in the business for several years, Dennis shared that he made it a point to give pointers to his daughter. “Sabi ko lang sa kanya be patient at maging mapagmahal sa fans. Bigyan ng oras ang mga fans dahil itong mga fans mo ang nag-aalaga sa career mo rin and be thankful sa lahat ng nakakatrabaho mo.”
