Boy Abunda: 'We are not lawyering for Vhong'
022414-boy_main.jpgAmid the unfolding of more intrigues and questions as well as the surfacing of more personalities, Buzz ng Bayan host Boy Abunda on their show’s Sunday episode underlined that their show, despite being under the Kapamilya network where Vhong Navarro was also a contract star, is hell bent in providing unbiased reportage about his ongoing legal case.

“We don’t have illusions of lawyering for Vhong Navarro. Hindi po kami mga abogado. All these people who are involved in this case are brilliant lawyers, Alma Mallonga, you have the brilliant Howard Calleja, you have other brilliant lawyers,” said the veteran host.

While speculations continue to arise that the network is siding with the It’s Showtime host, he revealed that “Ang sa amin lamang po ay sana’y mabigyan po kami ng pagkakataon na makapagsalaysay sa aming mga manonood, makapagkwento ng makatarungan, ng tapat, ng walang kinikilingan at higit sa lahat isang pagsalaysay, isang pag-kwento po na patas.

According to Boy, since the issue broke out, he and the show’s staff have relentlessly tried to invite Cedric Lee, Deniece Cornejo as well as the other parties involved to come to the show to answer questions or even to share their side of the story.

Ginawa po naming lahat, patuloy po kaming nangumbida kay Deniece ng personal. Ang aming staff ay tinawagan ang kanyang abogado, through my friends I was trying to reach Cedric. We were trying to invite all of them to Buzz ng Bayan para patas. Para balanse ang aming report sa inyo na aming manonood,” related Boy.

In fact, in an effort to obtain another version of the incident, he said that he even personally invited Deniece to come to the show when she interviewed her lolo Rod Cornejo where she happened to be present as well.

Furthermore, Boy highlighted that no one from the network is explicitly “commanding” them as to how they would report Vhong’s case.

He even noted that the first interview that he did with Vhong on January 26 which also aired on the show on the same day was a risk that the show took because “We could have been given the permission, pwede ring hindi kami bigyan ng pagkakataon but we continued to be there. Sa madaling salita, natuloy po ang interview. There were no conditions. Wala mga condition na ito lang ang dapat itanong. I did my interview.”

To bolster his earlier claim about impartial reporting, he cited the most recent investigative report that the show made which had a psychologist interpret the gestures and speech of the concerned parties after the CCTV footages from the condominium in Taguig where Vhong was mauled by Cedric and other men were released by the National Bureau of Investigation.

Nais ko pong sabihin na kung ano man ang naging resulta ng interview naming with the doctor-psychologist, panig man ‘yun kanino man ay aming ilalabas po ‘yun,” he said.

In parting he invited the lawyer of the second rape complainant against Vhong Roxanna Acosta Cabañero as well as her lawyer Atty. Virgilio Batalla that like Deniece and Cedric’s camp, they are also welcome to air their side on the show.
