Deniece Cornejo's granduncle defends her
020314-lolo_main.pngControversial personality Deniece Cornejo’s granduncle Rodrigo Cornejo expressed dismay that ever since news of Vhong Navarro’s attack at a condominium unit in Taguig exploded last week many people have quickly judged her without really knowing who she really is.
“Well masakit kasi hindi maganda kasi ang mga sinasabi. Siya ang biktima eh no siyempre nakikita ko na parang helpless,” he said during an interview with Buzz ng Bayan on Sunday.
More, the former GMA-7-employee-turned-professor said that Deniece confessed to him what truly happened that night and the
“I asked her. ‘Deniece, be honest with me, tell me. Unang una, meron ba kayong relasyon?’ Wala [daw]. I asked that. Ako, lalaki ako, siyempre I wasn’t born yesterday also. I looked at her in the eye. ‘Wala lolo.’ ‘Yung charge mo, totoo ba yun?’ Sabi niya, ‘Yes lolo.’ It’s either I believe her or not. And I chose to believe her,” he said.
He shared that he likewise asked the 22-year-old model the most intriguing question as to why she didn’t file a case against Vhong if he really tried to rape her, according to him, she said that the It’s Showtime host “pleaded for mercy.”
“Dinala nila siya sa prisinto and sabi niya ‘I will not file a case against you. I just want this to be a lesson for you.’ Because, according to her, the man pleaded for mercy,” he said.
With the National Bureau of Investigation’s turning over of the raw videos of the condominium’s  CCTV cameras, as well as the surfacing of Deniece and Cedric Lee, the other implicated personality on the mauling of Vhong, this week, a good number of the public has opted to either make conclusions or take sides.
To this, the older Cornejo appealed that, “I believe [people should know who she is] just as people should know who Vhong Navarro is. He attempted to rape her and I believe her. Ito lang ang pakiusap ko. Unang una, huwag muna tayo manghusga. Let the courts decide.”
But who is Deniece?
“Unang una, she’s a lovely and beautiful person, not because she’s my grandniece but because she has a good heart. Ang tingin ko sa kanya ay isang babae na gusto niya patunayan kung ano ang kakayahan niya. She’s the type na gusto umunlad sa kanyang sariling sikap. Alam niya kung ano ang gusto niya. Medyo matapang at determinado,” he said.
The older Cornejo was first among Deniece’s kin to speak up on the issue despite the terrible flak that she’s been getting and according to him it was her decision that such would be the case.
“Ang kanyang ama nasa abroad.'Yung kanyang mother and kanyang lola, Deniece is worried, ayaw na niyang mapahamak sila. Aminin na natin sa media, maraming malilikot diyan at hahanglungkatin. Siya ang nagdesisyon. She told me, ‘Huwag kayo mag-alala. Kaya ko ito. Huwag muna kayo makialam, trust me,’” he said.
Last Wednesday, Deniece filed a rape case against Vhong at the Taguig City Hall of Justice together with her legal counsel, Atty. Aquino.
