BB Gandanghari weighs in on Jennifer Laude’s murder

122614-ganda_main.jpgBB Gandanghari joined the thousands of Filipinos who are clamoring for justice for murdered transgender Filipino Jennifer Laude.

The Philippine National Police recently released the mugshots of US Marine Joseph Scott Pemberton.  The United States Marine, who is accused of killing Jennifer, appeared before the Philippine court for the first time only last December 19. Despite this delayed appearance, his lawyers even sought the suspension of the trial.

In an interview during the recently-concluded gala premiere of his brother Robin Padilla’s Metro Manila Film Festival entry Bonifacio: Ang Unang Pangulo, BB expressed his hopes for the case. “Sana magawan ng paraan ‘yun kasi it’s still murder. The way I see it, sa mga nakikita ko na lumalabas ngayon. It’s a hate crime, as I see it. So sana mabigyan ng hustisya dito sa Pilipinas at mabigyan ng linaw kung ano talaga ang nangyari kay Jennifer,” he said.

Many Filipinos crying for justice are also policing the supposed VIP treatment that is supposedly being given to the suspect. To this, BB said, “Kaya lang ‘yun daw kasi ‘yung nakalagay sa VFA eh. Oo eh. But I see it, kumbaga sana pagulungin ‘yung kaso.”

BB stressed that the problem right now is that “Mahirap kasi magsalita because of the VFA eh" especially since the case is already ongoing and that “Kumbaga nandoon lahat sa legal. Kapag ni-legal kana wala ka ng masabi eh.”

But BB underscored that the bottom line of the entire incident is to bring justice to what happened to Jennifer. As part of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) community, BB stressed that he’s also very careful every time he meets new individuals so as to ensure his safety.

“It’s been my fear actually, it’s been my fear,” he started “Kasi dito sa Pilipinas hindi ko problema ‘yan eh ‘cause everyone knows kung sino ako. But every time I’m in the US or in some parts of the world na hindi ako kilala, I’m very, very careful not to mislead,” he continued.

According to BB, he makes it a point to be honest with his dealings with other people every single time. “I’m always honest kung ano ako kapag nakikipagkilala ako o kapag may nakikipagkilala sakin kasi may mga ganyan eh. Hindi ito bago eh, sa Amerika ang dami ng nangyari na ganito eh. So I’m very aware,” he explained.

Since he claims to be “very careful” with his affairs, BB was then asked how his heart was currently doing especially since he’s been very quiet of late.
“Hayaan na muna natin siya. Okay lang,” he said then he laughingly explained, “Okay lang siya but it can be better.”
