After having a successful television series as well as being part of two Metro Manila Film Fest entries this year, The Amazing Praybeyt Benjamin and English Only Please, Tom Rodriguez said he is lucky to have a busy career but admitted his role as a criminal mastermind in Vice Ganda's comedy gave him a lengthier exposure. “Para sa akin, nag-cameo lang ako sa isang film. Parang nakidaan lang ako, literally (laughs). Mahaba role ko dito sa Praybeyt Benjamin kasi kung doon mga two seconds, dito mas lagpas, mga five and three quarters (laughs),” he said.
After first working with Vice Ganda in Petrang Kabayo in 2010, the former Pinoy Big Brother housemate said he was excited to work again with some of his former colleagues and director. “I always enjoy working with Vice Ganda. This is my second time working with him. I worked with him in Petrang Kabayo with direk Wenn Deramas din and Abby Bautista. Si Abby ang liit liit pa nun ngayon ang tangkad na, dalaga na. So it feels like a big homecoming. So hindi lang because it's Star Cinema, because it's direk Wenn pero dahil sa buong cast. Ang dami talaga and it's a wonderful feeling. A great way na tapusin yung year ko na gumawa ng isang comedy na good vibes lang talaga. Isa itong napakasaya at nakakatuwang movie. Super nag-enjoy ako sa Petrang Kabayo kaya nung nalaman ko na sila uli yung makakasama ko I knew it would be a lot of fun,” he shared.
Tom admitted that one of the most memorable scenes in the movie for him was his big fight scene with Vice Ganda. “Basta nag-enjoy kami. Grabe hindi namin in-expect pagpunta namin sa set lalo na nyung Praybeyt Benjamin comedy movie. Akala namin pareho joke time yung fight scene namin. Hindi namin in-expect na ganun kadugo. Kahit si direk naririnig ko sa likod, 'Kina-career naman masyado ung fight choreographer!' Sobrang ang laki talaga nung eksena. It was a lot of fun and maraming dikitan ng mukha pero it was a lot of fun to do lalo na si Vice yung kasama ko. I always enjoy working with him. Yung wish niya maging gay action star, dito matutupad yun,” he said.
This Christmas, Tom said he does not wish to receive anything but practice the gift of giving. “Kung may mareregalo ay yun ay saya. Hindi material na bagay kundi saya, kung puwede ako maging kaligayahan at kalusugan at ibibigay ko yun sa mga taga-Tacloban at Samar, sa lahat ng mga nasalanta ng bagyo. Sana yun yung puwede kong maibigay sa kanila. I never expect gifts from anyone. Hindi ako ganun eh kahit nung bata pa ako. Kahit every year regalo sa akin ng pamilya ko sketch pad lang napakasaya ko na. Kaya kahit anong i-gift sa akin I'm not expecting kaya it will be a surprise whatever it is,” said the Samar native.
For his co-star Carla Abellana whom he is reportedly dating, Tom said he already has a gift in mind. “Siyempre, I always have gifts for people who are close to me in my life. There's definitely a gift for her pero sa akin na lang muna yun. It's going to be very, very, very special. From her naman wala na eh, na-re-receive ko na eh kung ano yung kailangan ko sa kanya, her company, her friendship, her support lagi,” he added.
The 27-year-old Fil-Am actor admitted he and Carla are getting to know each other even more. “All the time naman. It's an evolving thing and it's always getting stronger and getting better. Well I'm not seeing anyone else. And I don't plan to. Mas tumitibay nga eh and sinasabi ko na wala nga akong ibang mas or nararamdaman na ganito ka-espesyal na relationship, sa kanya lang,” he said.
