Ai-Ai de las Alas reveals she had Bell’s palsy


111214-aiai2_main.jpgAi-Ai de las Alas revealed that she was recently diagnosed with Bell’s palsy. Ai-Ai opened up about this during the press conference of her upcoming film Past Tense on November 11.

"Nagkaroon ako ng Bell's palsy for two weeks. Hindi ako naka-shoot for two weeks," Ai-Ai said.

Bell's palsy is a form of facial paralysis caused by the inability to control facial muscles. While several medical websites noted that the reason for Bell’s palsy remain unclear, they nevertheless revealed that total patient recovery could happen in a month or two—even without treatment.

Luckily though, Ai-Ai got better sooner than expected. "Ibinigay sa akin ni Lord two weeks lang para makapahinga siguro ako sa mga lumalabas na isyu," Ai-Ai said. "Di natin alam saan galing [pwedeng stress] pero more of init lamig 'yon. Akala ko pangmatanda lang 'yon. Totoo pala yon na bawal mainit tapos lamig, Napapasma pala ang mga nerves sa mukha,” she added.

Other than Ai-Ai, broadcaster Bernadette Sembrano had likewise suffered from Bell’s palsy back in 2011.

Ai-Ai who just turned 50 on Tuesday will be part of the cast of Star Cinema’s latest movie offering Past Tense together with Kim Chiu and Xian Lim which was directed by Mae Cruz-Alviar. The movie is set to open in cinemas nationwide on November 26.
