Piolo Pascual: ‘Inigo had a DNA testing’

100814-piolo_main.jpgPiolo Pascual confirmed that the DNA testing on his son Inigo mentioned by his sister in his E! TV special really did happen. "Matagal na ‘yun. Sobrang baby pa siya nun. Wala na rin kasi kami ng girlfriend ko noon, ‘yung mommy niya. We’re all on good terms so we don’t want to elaborate on that,” he said to the members of the press during a press conference for his Sunpiology: An Adventure-filled Run with the Stars event on November 15 at the Bonifacio Global City.

(Among the stars that are slated to join Piolo on the run are Jane Oineza, Rayver Cruz, Jessy Mendiola, Matteo Guidicelli, Ejay Falcon, Joem Bascon and some of the other PBB All In housemates, among others.)

He continued, “He’s already a grown-up and we don’t want people saying it’s because of DNA that I became his father. I’ve always been his father, no doubt about that.”

It was actually his sister Chiqui Gonzales who broke the news in the actor’s E! News Special which aired last September 28. According to her, the heartthrob was only 20 when he came to know about the pregnancy of this then girlfriend.

She said, "[Piolo] was in denial. He didn't want to accept that Inigo was his son, so they had this DNA test. It was 99.9% [positive]!"

The Hawak Kamay actor shared with the press that he had no inkling that what his sister said would actually come out of the 30-minute feature. "Hindi ko din alam when my sister talked about it sa [E! News Asia] at kasama ko 'yung anak ko noon. I was cringing because hindi ko alam ang lalabas sa E! Siyempre he is my own blood," he related.

Earlier at the press con, Piolo was prodded about his certainty that he only has one son after he addressed a question that he’s currently working on his last will and testament which would have his mother and son as his beneficiaries.

"So far wala naman. Hindi na siguro aabot doon, kung before, wala naman," he replied. [If ever] DNA lang ang katapat noon. Ano ganun-ganun lang?"

Inigo’s showbiz stint

His 17-year-old son has been quite visible in local showbiz lately as he is currently promoting his debut movie Relaks, It’s Just Pag-ibig. “Mas busy pa nga siya sa akin eh,” the 37-year-old star noted.
100814-piolo_main.jpgWhile he initially set his limits for his son’s local appearances, Piolo nonchalantly shared that he was somehow duped by his co-producers into his son’s premature joining of showbiz. “Oo nalinlang ako ng mga co-producers ko. Eh usapan namin pelikula lang, tanga-tanga ko lang pumayag ako na walang promo this and that and then I realized na I was told, ‘Paano kikita ‘yung pelikula kung hindi mo pagpo-promote-in ang anak mo?’” he shared.

But according to the actor-singer, he makes it a point to screen the appearances of his son. “Sabi ko hindi pa rin pwede na showbiz kasi nga nag-aaral pa ang bata eh. Ang usapan namin after high school or after he’s 18. Eh kinuha ng Sun Life. Practical lang may pelikula siya last year na ginawa and then we got Star Cinema to distribute it then for it to have bigger awareness,” he explained.

Piolo said he recognizes the fact that Inigo has to be known first in order for his movie to succeed. “Kilala naman siya bilang anak ko lang pero on his own. So I had him do ASAP for a month. Enjoy na enjoy naman siya,” Piolo recalled.

Why was he so reluctant about Inigo finally joining showbiz? “Studies kasi once he gets a taste of it hindi na mag-aaral ‘yun. Just like anybody else. Parang for me make sure you prioritize your studies because mahirap ng balikan ‘yun kapag kumikita kana ng pera eh,” he ended.
