Gretchen Barretto shared that one of the reasons she said yes to doing the upcoming Star Cinema movie The Trial was that Chito Roño would be directing it. “Knowing that it's a Chito Roño film, knowing that it's batikan na director ang magdi-direk who would not want to work with Chito Roño? Pagnandito ka sa industriyang ito bucket list mo ‘yun na makatrabaho ang isang Chito Roño and I am very happy, wala akong regrets na ginawa ko ‘tong pelikula na ‘to,” she said.
The actress also shared that she has always wanted to work with John Lloyd Cruz, who is the main star of the movie, so she grabbed the opportunity when the film was offered to her. “To work with John Lloyd, I've watched his movies, I’m a big fan. I believe in his talent and more than that I really am the biggest fan of John Lloyd.”
Gretchen said that she is truly grateful that she had been given the chance to star with the actor. “Talagang ang laking pasasalamat ko sa ABS-CBN and Star Cinema. I didn’t feel that there was a John Lloyd on the set though because talagang nasa character na siya na si Ronald pagdating, ‘yun so I’m just grateful.”
She also said that it is the toughest film she did. It is also a reunion movie for her and Richard Gomez. “This is the heaviest drama movie that I've ever done and siyempre ang tagal naming hindi nagkasama ni Goma (Richard Gomez) sa isang project, the difference is we both have matured as an actor.”
Gretchen admitted that she was hesitant at first to do the movie. “’Yung nabasa ko ‘yung script medyo nagalinlangan ako ng kaonti simply because alam kong maraming challenges na sabi ko kakayanin ko ba ‘to? I mean the fact a Star Cinema trusted me to offer me this role to me sabi ko I don’t want to let them down. Buti nagawa ko ito.”
