With a career that spans more than three decades in the entertainment industry, Kuh Ledesma revealed that she has already been part of more than 1,000 concerts throughout her career. She is also a consummate artist who also counts acting and painting as her biggest passions next to singing.
“Lahat yan love ko pero siyempre hindi ko puwede kalimutan yung singing. When I have a project like this, definitely yung focus ko nandun. If I paint maybe a few times in a week pero I'm also very passionate about painting now because I also use it as a medium t share the miracle of God in my life na binalik sa akin ng Diyos ang passion ko for painting after 40 years,” she shared.
The talented singer is currently preparing for The King and The Diva: Beyond Classics, a one-night only Valentines concert with Leo Valdez to be held at the Newport Theater at Resorts World Manila. Their repertoire includes excerpts from popular Broadway hits, Filipino classic love songs as well as Kuh's classic hits like “'Til I Met You” and “One More Try.” “It's a very interesting concept actually and it didn't have to happen on Valentines. We were very confident that it was going to do well last year and then so much so for Valentines. I'm equally excited kasi this is the first time we're really doing a full-length concert and the repertoire is quite interesting, meron pang excerpts nung King and I. We're doing that portion where I meet the king. Ako yung nanny. Sabi ko nga I will only do this concert if I can do that excerpt (laughs). We have a mix of mga pop songs na love songs which are well chosen and then we also have love songs from some of the more famous and bigger Broadway. I'm doing ‘Don't Cry For Me Argentina,’ he's doing something from Miss Saigon kasi ginawa niya yun for so many years and Jesus Christ Superstar,” she shared during The Kind and The Diva presscon held last January 23 at Passion restaurant at the Maxim Hotel.
Kuh also shared that she feels lucky to be sharing the stage with one of the country's top international talents Leo Valdez who was also part of the original cast of Miss Saigon along with Lea Salonga and has played the role of the Engineer the longest in the history of Miss Saigon. “I know that I'm going to have a fun time doing a concert with Leo because actually mabait si Leo. Hindi siya maarte. He really gives everything he has to every song kaya naman he was chosen as Engineer in Miss Saigon and to be chosen for a role like that you have to be excellent,” she admitted.
After recently being part of a teleserye, Kuh said she still try to spend time to be close to her daughter Isabella. “There are times na minsan na kinukulang ako ng time for my daughter and then siya yung nag-re-remind sa akin. We bond and just go to Hacienda Isabella and just spend the day together. Talagang nangyayari yun when we get very busy. But my daughter naman also has so many talents din na nagiging busy rin siya. But we never forget to spend time together lalo na at church tapos may mga ina-attend-an kami sa church na conferences that we attend together,” she shared.
With her most recent role as an accepting mother to a gay son in a soap opera, Kuh said that her real life persona would come from a different kind of mindset. “I am a Christian and I have to say that before Christianity I had a lot of things that I did not understand about the right relationship with god so para sa akin what I can say about it is that importante that we search for what the truth is kung ano yung makakabuti sa atin kasi kung mananatili tayo sa isang lifestyle for example na hindi naman nagugustuhan ng Diyos, we can miss out and lose out so importante na alamin natin kung ano ang plano ng Diyos para sa atin. If we never ask God or we never, ever do something, hindi puwedeng kung ano lang ang gusto natin eh, kasi ang lumikha sa atin ang Diyos eh so siya ang nakakaalam ng makakabuti sa atin,” she said.
The King and The Diva: Beyond Classic is directed by Floy Quintos together with musical director Homer Flores. Tickets are available at all TicketWorld outlets and at the Resorts World Manila Box Office.
