Jake Cuenca to Sam Milby: 'May the best man win'

In an interview during the blogger’s conference of <i>Maria Mercedes</i>, Jake addressed the matter. “Well, <i>kung sa</i> show <i>mapapanood niyo na pinag-aagawan si</i> <i>Maria Mercedes</i>, <i>eh hindi naman malabo mangyari ‘yan kay </i>Jessy Mendiola, <i>kasi iisa lang naman sila. Ang sa akin</i>, may the best man win,” he remarked.</div><div><br/></div><div>It was reported that the two actors clashed during the recent Star Magic Ball because of Sam’s overprotectiveness of the actress. But Jake clarified that he’s friends with Sam. The <i>Maria Mercedes</i> actor couldn’t see any reason though not to court Jessy if he wants to. “<i>Di ba</i> she's still single, so <i>wala pa tayo sa</i> finals,” Jake briefly stated.</div><div><br/></div><div>More than anything else, Jake is focused on his upcoming Kapamilya teleserye. “It’s really a homecoming to be back as the leading man again. <i>Siyempre</i> the last soaps that I did <i>medyo</i> offbeat <i>din ‘yung </i>role <i>ko sa</i> <i>Kung Ako’y Iiwan Mo</i> at <i>Kahit Puso’y Masugatan</i>. So you know this is where I started and I’m really happy<i> na</i> they gave me a role like this,” he said.</div><div><br/></div><div>On the preparations that he had to do for the soap, Jake shared, “I think I had to get in touch again with me being matinee idol, more or less, because in Cinemalaya, I played the rapist in the movie. In <i>Lihis</i> (his recent indie movie) I played the gay military person so more or less I really need to know myself again and more or less bring it that way.”</div><div><br/></div><div>He relayed that his role in Maria Mercedes is very close to his personality. “<i>Sa akin naman</i> the role is very close to home, the role is very close to my personality, so more or less, the most challenging part is to make it different lang. [I had to do] slight changes and I just got back to my Spanish roots in terms of passion and all of that.”</div><div><br/></div><div>Jake also expressed his gratitude to all those who watched his indie movie <i>Lihis</i> and for the great feedback that he has received. “<i>Sobrang saya</i> and thankful to everyone who watched it and still watching it and <i>sobrang salamat sa lahat ng</i> reviews. Thank you so much to everyone for all the tweets and the compliments. And <i>sobrang</i> I'm proud of it <i>kasi</i> it's an indie <i>pero ‘yung</i> feeling <i>ng para siyang</i> mainstream<i> kasi pinag-uusapan siya</i>.”</div><div><br/></div><div>When asked if he’s going to do more indie films in the future, the actor relayed, “Yeah definitely, <i>icha</i>-challenge<i> ko pa talaga sarili ko</i> to do more shows like that<i> kasi kasama na ‘yan sa pagiging aktor</i>. That's one of the best things I want to do. <i>Gusto ko iba't ibang </i>roles <i>talaga</i> and sometimes you get those roles in indie so<i> ako</i> I’ll never stop doing it.”</div>

Jake Cuenca says he doesn't see any reason not to court Jessy Mendiola even if Sam Milby has already announced his intentions to court the actress.
