Gretchen Barretto says she would rather focus on taking care of the people she loves than on negative things.
At the annual Star Magic Ball at the Fairmont Hotel in Makati City, Gretchen Barretto walked the red carpet with a happy disposition. The talented actress, who was last seen on Primetime Bida's "Huwag Ka Lang Mawawala," said she enjoys being part of the formal event. “It is an honor. Every year iniimbitahan talaga ako ng
Star Magic, si
Ms. Mariole (Alberto) at
Mr. M. I'm very happy kasi talaga namang Kapamilya ako
in this event. I'm very happy dahil andito rin si
Julia Barretto and si
Dominique Barretto-Cojuangco so parang mas kumpleto yung
” she said.
Also seen walking down the Star Magic Ball red carpet was Gretchen's only daughter Dominique, who people were surprised to be seen escorted by "Muling Buksan Ang Puso" star Enchong Dee. Gretchen said she happily gave permission to the young actor when he asked if he could be Dominique's date for the night. “Napakalakas ni Enchong sa akin, alam mo naman nagkatrabaho kami so sabi ko kay Dominique that she's going to get along fine with him. He's very funny and a nice guy, very intelligent,” she admitted.
The 43-year-old actress said she also wouldn't mind if Enchong even ends up courting Dominique. “Eh di mabuti para masaya na di ba? (laughs). Hindi naman ako tumututol eh, magaling naman ang utak ng anak ko. She's always open about that with me so I trust her,” she said. Both mother and daughter are set to fly for London this week where Dominique will study college. “I'm going with her. I'll settle Dominique there first, basta pabalik balik ako. I'll be coming home to shoot some commercials for a few days and then go back.”
When asked to comment about the family issues hounding the Barretto clan this year, Gretchen chose to refrain from delving into the issue during the ball. “I think there's a proper time for everything and tonight is a very important night for everybody. I will be in London in a few days so I want to enjoy every minute and I will keep you all updated through my Instagram. I am very positive kasi marami na akong pinagdaanan sa buhay. Marami ng bumatikos at lahat ng maasakit sinabi na sa akin. What else can be said against me? Wala na. So for me parang I'm really, really free. I have been set free and I feel very, very vindicated. And right now I'm just taking care of the love I see all around me. Wala namang problema. Para sa akin, yung outlook mo sa buhay yun yung magiging problema. It's how you react to things, how you deal with things and for me right now, okay naman ang buhay ko. I have a lot of love surrounding me, a lot of friends, a lot of work. Outlook ko na lang sa buhay ang importante. It's how you see things and wala akong nakikitang problema,” she explained.
Having always been a fighter all her life, Gretchen said she is not scared to defend her loved ones on social media sites, more recently on Instagram. “Ganun naman talaga ang buhay, pag mahal mo siyempre dedepensahan mo. But you can only go so far defending people and then after a while, even si Dominique hinahayaan ko to defend herself. She's 18 years old. She's an adult and I told her, 'Dominique you're even more intelligent than me. You finished far more than I have ever finished so we're all adults now.' Naging matatag ako dahil sa lahat ng pinagdaanan ko and I am who I am because of all that. And ganun talaga ang buhay, hindi naman perpekto,” she said.
Although she has also experienced her fair share of bashers, Gretchen chose to take the good with the bad and says that online trolls will not discourage her. “Ay hindi naman, that's all part of life. Puwede ba namang wala kang bashers? Kung wala kang bashers, eh di ka na importante sa tao,” she said.
