Celebrities and netizens weigh in on the Chito Miranda-Neri Naig video scandal

080613-chito_main.jpgA good two days after Parokya ni Edgar frontman Chito Miranda and girlfriend Neri Naig set the online world abuzz due to their leaked sex tape, the hashtag "Chito Miranda" remained a trending topic on several social networking sites. Various known personalities and ordinary netizens felt compelled to weigh in on the unfortunate scandal that the couple has been embroiled in.

Some rallied to the couple's side and called for respect for the singer behind hits such as "Harana," "Buloy," "Silvertoes," and "Halaga" among others.

Actress-model Bubbles Paraiso, a friend of Miranda’s, on Sunday reposted on her Instagram account a cartoonized photo of the singer by a certain DeeJay Villanueva with the caption: "Pinakinggan natin ang mga kanta nya. pinasaya, pinatawa, at maraming umiidolo. TANDAAN: Kinalakihan natin ang Musika niya kaya IRESPETO din natin siya gaya mo TAO din siya't nagkakamali. Alalahanin niyo na kung wala ang HARANA niya walang magkakatuluyan kahit na PANGARAP LANG KITA ginawa niya ang lahat PARA SAYO, kaya matuto kayong tumanggap ng SORRY NA kase sya lang ang MY ONE AND ONLY. Kahit na ano pa mang mangyari, Solid at Rakenrol pa'rin! #respect" @chitomirandajr."

Controversial personality Hayden Kho, who also got involved in the same kind of situation a few years back, indirectly chided the netizens who have seen the video on his Twitter account on Monday. Kho wrote, "Your eyes are God's gift to you. Are u going to use them to insult the Giver by watching something you KNOW you're not supposed to watch?"

Netizen Missa Taris, offered words of encouragement on the Instagram account of the musician on Saturday and said, "'WAG KANG SUSUKO SA MGA BAGAY NA D MO NAMAN IKAMAMATAY. DIBA DAPAT KANG LALONG TUMITIBAY =)."

While others sympathized with the couple, some took this incident once again as an opportunity to remind other couples, both known or not, to be responsible for their actions.

Among them was columnist Harold Geronimo who opined on his Twitter account, “That Chito Miranda-Neri Naig video scandal is another lesson for all couples to stop video recording their own private affairs.”

While Maila Barcial Enriquez pointed out on her Facebook account on Sunday that the couple were the only ones to blame why this scandal came to be in the first place. "Kaloka yung scandal ni #ChitoMiranda, my point of view is that Walang ibang dapat sisihin kung di sila Lang dalawa, I got the chance to view the video and sila Mismo Ang kumukuha at nag uusod ng camera, So it's their choice to have that video in the first place so nganga nalang," she wrote.

Hours after his sex tape became viral on Saturday, August 3, Miranda quickly issued a statement via Instagram and apologized to his family about the leakage of their private video citing that his room, where he stored his hard drive, was burglarized recently.
