When asked if she had any hesitations about accepting the role considering that she had just finished Walang Hanggan then, she replied, “Well, hindi ko in-expect na ganito ka soon na I start working again pero ‘yun nga nangailangan ‘yung network ng kapalit for Maricel (Soriano). Nahiya naman akong magsabi na, ‘Ay, hindi pwede’.”
The actress said she’s grateful to her husband Congressman Anton Lagdameo who agreed for her to work again on a teleserye. “To think that when we started working I was busy campaigning na, buti na lang naiintindihan ako ng husband ko and this is all an opportunity for me naman to give back sa network, so ‘yun tinaggap ko,” she said.
Dawn is ecstatic to be playing a new character, saying, “Exciting kasi it’s a different kind of role naman that I’m portraying, quite different from what I’ve done in the past in Mula sa Puso and Walang Hanggan. And this time naman I’m fighting for the kalayaan ng anak ko so another heavy drama.”
Now that she would be playing as mom again, does she ever get weary of portraying this kind of a role? “Yes sometimes it’s tiring that’s why I’m very choosy with the roles that I portray because there are just so many facets of a mother role that you can accept and siyempre as an artista nagiging halos pareho-pareho na din lalo na sa pag atake.”
On how she’s able to reinvent herself in Bukas Na Lang Kita Mamahalin, Dawn shared, “Pinag-aaralan ko lang ng mabuti ‘yung character, parang what drives the character. I rely on our directors, very good kasi si direk Jerome (Pobocan), he helped me also in creating the character. Binigyan niya ako ng mga peg ng movies na pinanood ko, TV shows, para ipakita lang niya sa akin na ganito si Zenaida. So from there, that’s where I’m able to mold the character from within. Sometimes it’s something that I just don’t do, I need the help of the directors and the creative team also.”
